"Premier League games will be streamed on Amazon from the 2019/20 season after the tech giant purchased one of the remaining rights packages.
Sky and BT Sport will continue to broadcast games after buying the rights to 160 matches for almost £4.5bn earlier this year but they will do so alongside Amazon, who will show 20 matches per season.
They have moved to secure one of the two remaining packages with BT buying up the other. From August 2019 they will now show 52 games per season with Sky 128.
A statement read: "Every Premier League club will be featured across two full rounds of 20 matches per season, including Bank Holiday fixtures, plus weekly highlights throughout the season."
The move is the first time a full round of Premier League fixtures will be shown in the UK.
The company confirmed the move will come with no extra cost to Prime Video users but for those not already subscribed it will see a further increase in the cost of watching football.
Facebook were understood to be interested in one of the packages but it is Amazon who was won through breaking the stranglehold held by Sky and BT"
Was talking about this with friends a few weeks ago, didn't think it would happen this soon but wondered how long until Netflix/Amazon/Facebook made a move for the Premier League. Online streaming is the way everything is going now, hopefully it isn't long until we can get rid of Sky and move to online streaming legally.

Some kind of subscription package is probably the way it's going, but just interested to see how they'll make it affordable, like will they allow you to manually select which games you use each month?
Already included in Prime that's unbelievable value for money in that membership tbh.

My and my gf got Prime purely for quick deliveries because we use Amazon all the time but the other shit you get on top makes it an absolute no brainer. And then you get this as well!? I also just realised that this actually only covers 2 match days. So on a bank holiday weekend they will show all 10 fixtures and then during one set of midweek fixtures they'll show all 10 games. Don't know whether that's a bit shit because you can't actually watch all 20 games or amazing because you can watch any game you want.

Sounds like they've got the midweek round in the first week of December and Boxing Day. So £7.99 for the one month and then just cancel after.

Quite clever timing because it'll double up with Christmas present buying.
Almost as if the rights package was designed for them.

I don't think online streaming will be a success for football or most sport in general. As soon as you direct people online to watch they will just go for illegal streams instead. The only reason I still subscribe to Sky and BT is because I don't want to be 30sec-2min behind. As little as that sounds it ruins the experience entirely if you are also on twitter, a whatsapp group or checking your coupon online as you can often have goals "spoiled".
I have amazon prime so it would still be the easiest option for me to get the game online but if they put it behind another paywall or for those not already prime subscribers then illegal streams will be the first try.

I agree with the being behind aspect, can't stand it when I get a load of messages if I'm watching a game online.
Not the stuff about people going for illegal streams instead though, surely if that were the case then Amazon Prime and Netflix would be a failure because TV shows and movies are just as easy to access illegally as football streams are. I pay for both Netflix and Amazon Prime because they're reasonably priced and you get great content, I feel like that's the reason people are moving away from Sky, because it's ridiculously overpriced.
Obviously Amazon will have to up their prices if they get more sport or break their subscriptions into packages but at the minute me and my gf split £80 between us so I'm essentially paying £3.xx a month for all the TV shows, football, Twitch Prime and Prime delivery. It's outrageous value, even if they doubled their prices it'd still be worth it.

Yeah I think their biggest issue will be lag, but I personally wouldn't go for an illegal stream when I could get a HD stream through Amazon (which can be accessed through the PS4 rather than hooking my laptop up to HDMI).

I don't think it's as bad these days with official streams, my mate uses one of my other mates Sky password and he's usually around 45 seconds behind. I remember the days of two minutes behind.
According to that when Amazon stream Thursday Night Football it's around 28 seconds behind which is pretty impressive tbh, I wonder how close it's possible to get it in the future?

Think it was leaked on reddit that they're introducing Prime+ later on in the year which is about £50 more so don't too hopeful D:
