We're all footy fans here and we all came from a gaming community so 2 and 2 together means we've probably all played footy video games. Before FIFA and PES took over the market there were and still actually are a shit load of obscure and mostly god-awful football games. IC reminded me of red card on the other site but I never owned it myself.
I've got quite a few obscure footy games on ps1: Striker 96, Adidas power soccer 97, kick off world, onside, three lions and liberogrande. Striker was funny because of the unlicensed names like Shearar and the indoor mode where there were no fouls given so you could hack away. Adidas power soccer went a step further and let you actually kick people in the head. Kick off world was a bit shit so better left unsaid. Onside was a legendary management game of its time. Three lions was an England themed game and clunky as fuck but kind of fun in its own way. Liberogrande was unique because it was virtual pro mode before FIFA.
Anyone else played any of the above or any others?

Libero Grande was great! Loved it at the time, was very original and felt realistic. So obscure though, I rented the one copy out of Chartbusters four or five times, never saw it sold and it's basically unheard of now.
Red Card was good fun, just football thuggery. Used to be able to karate kick the ref that was fun.

You never could do all the silky skills from the opening video in a match even if you did everything you could with the skill button. Boss game though cuz there was nothing like it and it was a challenge. Castro was a beast!

Three Lions on PS1. I remember a little target came up when you went to shoot and your player sort of slowed down..so bad yet so good

Beat Scotland 1-0 before It was actually one of the better games of its time, the sound effects were great, crowd chants, the brass band, people shouting "wing it" and "man on". The shooting was sluggish but the game has its charm. I wish mine didn't crash so much though, my disc is scratched to death

Fucking loved redcard, it was ridiculous and there's nothing like playing a team of dolphins dropkicking the ref.

New Star Soccer on iPhone is quality if you have time, don't know how obscure it is though!
Retro-wise, This is Football 2000 I think it was, with the dive button? Incredible fun there. And I forget what it was called but I think it was something like International Soccer 98 or something for Ps1? That was amazing too

Michael owen soccer or whatever it was on ps1 Aye, Michael Owen's WLS, surprisingly really enjoyed those games. Libero Grande is a great shout, basically FIFA's Be a Pro in a basic form. The early New Star Soccer games were good too, a great time waster back in the day. Haven't played them since they introduced controlling the player rather than just making choices in a match. Alex Ferguson's Player Manager 2001 was shit in comparison to Premier Manager/LMA back in the day yet I spent far too much time playing it.

New Star Soccer on iPhone is quality if you have time, don't know how obscure it is though! No, that game's shit. Have one chance on the ball and get 4 goals and an assist. Here have a 3.1 rating... Still play it too much though

Skill challenges were great too. Although I'm convinced it would be kinda shite if I ever played it again, the nostalgia makes it seem a lot better than it was.
