One of the greatest strikers ever. 700 odd goals in 700 games for his entire career. Would have graced any era. If you haven't seen how hard he hit the ball, it's worth looking up. RIP.

Found out an awesome fact today that I wasn't aware of. In 1971 Benfica allowed Eusebio to come over to Bolton and play at Burnden Park for Eddie Hopkinson's testimonial.
Eddie Hopkinson is our all-time record appearance maker, former England keeper and member of the great Lofthouse 50s side.
Amazing when you think about it, Kevin Davies is due a testimonial next year with us and it's like Messi coming over to play!

Unbelievable record even for that era The thing is though now it's getting back to the way that there are as many goals now as there ever was. I can see question marks over the quality of La Liga with all of Messi and Ronaldo's goals in twenty years time. How many players have near goal-a-game records now? As well as Messi and Ronaldo, the likes of Suarez, Falcao, Ibrahimovic, Van Persie, Cavani have all scored at very high goal per game rates. From an article by Jonathan Wilson from the end of 2012 but it's interesting what he says: There were more goals in the last Champions League knock out stages than there were in the 1958 World Cup. Goal averages per game are generally going up again from the lows of the 1980s and early 90s backpass and Italian ultra defending. In the 60s as well, yes there were a few more goals overall but there was a lot of cynicism aswell in fouling, marking and some really defensive systems were emerging. 1966 World Cup had an average of 2.8 goals per game, 1998 World Cup had an average of 2.7 goals per game so there is no great difference and in Eusebio's case, 9 goals in that World Cup is outstanding. The last World Cup to be fair had barely any goals but that was just a poor tournament. Interested to learn that Eusebio won BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year, only him, Pele and Ronaldo have won it. Was popular in England after that World Cup.

it must have been.obviously deleted because it sounded so retarded
went along the lines of "Always thought he was overrated but not the time to discuss it, thoughts go out to his family"

Shit like that makes me laugh, how would anyone of this generation know if Eusebio was over rated? His record is astounding, great to watch in highlights - but that's all I've ever really seen of him. Couldn't say if he was over or underrated.

RIP, like has been said I don't think you can really overrate or underrate someone you've never watched, but I'd noticed Eusebio wasn't mentioned as often as Pele, Maradona, Best, Di Stefano and even Puskas (hipster choice). Class player, will be the focal point of my team in the FM draft if Pole Land gets his finger out

Eusebio seems like he would have fit in well with the modern game too, he could run 100m in 11 seconds and all that plus he could have done athletics if he wasn't an athlete. Whereas Puskas probably would have needed to work on his fitness a bit.

Eusebio seems like a top gentleman off and on the pitch. Not to mention, he is one of the all-time greatest striker.
RIP
