Who thought they were screwed? Vermaelen got found out well before the Bayern game that he was a bit crap. it's a little bit of a cop out too now its been stretched to a full 90mins. Both started the City game and were losing when Koscienlny went off injured Just your standard every day fan. People like Arse and GTS probably bricked it when Vermaelen was out. Or pundits like Hansen and the subsequent MOTD watchers or Fifa players. Dare I say it I think every member on here is intelligent re: football especially compared to your every day Sun buying Scott Parking loving Harry Redknapp for England brigade.

LOL Stu You've got as much chance of getting sucked into a relegation battle as you have of finishing 6th/7th. He scored the goals that got us to both the semi and final of the Champions League, the winner in the FA Cup semi final and a winner against Everton. What a guy. He was basically like Nani who performed in big games. Southampton aren't getting top 6 whenever you consider who has to drop out of it. Even if they were currently in the top 4, I would doubt their ability to stay in the top 6, never mind being 10 points off 6th at the minute.

Never said that we WILL get it, but ruling us out with half the season left is stupid, imo. Same with Newcastle.
No side has really got into a major run of form this season, Utd are there for the taking in most games, if we beat Sunderland on Saturday and Chelsea beat Utd on Sunday, we're only 4 points behind them.
I don't think we'll get top 7, but it's not a ridiculous suggestion to think that we can challenge for it if we get the defensive stability back that we had at the start of the season. 1 game since Boruc was back, 1 clean sheet.

we can challenge but it takes some stretch of the imagination to think of either one of us being in front of one of the sides above us come May

re benteke, i remember saying in the summer he wont be as good as he was last season, think it was around the time when he handed in a transfer request and apparently we wanted him, think a fair few people jumped on me for saying that, tbf to him hes in a shite team, reckon we would see much more from him at spurs but hes very similar to ade, probably say benteke is a better finisher but ade is better in general play

I'm not ruling you out per se, I just don't think you'll do it. Your season isn't over yet, you can still have a go, just like Blue Moon said, it's a stretch to see it happening. It's horrible going out of the FA Cup in the 3rd round. You'll have two weeks between matches after this weekend.

Could benefit Newcastle that, they seem to be like us in that they do better without Europe and the lack of FA Cup means they get even more rest.

On topic of the 2 week break due to FA Cup football next weekend, it's good from a Spurs POV. Probably have Townsend, Sandro, Paulinho, Vertonghen, Walker and Lamela back by then.

If Townsend gets another game for you this season as a regular, I really don't think you deserve anything.

You have to bear in mind we're talking about a 20 y/o who is playing week in week out for the first time since he was 17. I think people forget just how young he really is. He is far from the finished article and has a lot of developing to do. That being said he is still a great player. Am I the only one thinking he has a dodgy passport and is actually 25?

Apparently AC Milan have approached him with an offer to be their new CEO.
