They had a little bit of a thing in the game the other day but I can’t see it being down to that.
Either a long-standing thing or their heads have fully fallen off. I really hope it was due to Gomez having a bit of a laugh about the match.
The Mirror are saying Sterling initiated it and asked Gomez if he’s “still the big man”. Lmao. Tart.

I Like Sterling and don't hold a grudge for him going off winning trophies and earning money but it's hilarious to see him so rattled, especially since he's become this level headed sensible media darling all of a sudeen. Absolutely nowt made of the stamp on Van Djik at the end and now he's starting scraps on international duty. Bubbling all day. Halo slipping?

Didn't Gomez shithouse out and push him into the advertising hoardings?
If so I'm fully behind Sterling, it's a proper scummy thing to do. Robertson being praised for doing the same to Walker too.

No TAA had the incident with him near the hoardings, Sterling had a go at Gomez for not letting him take a quick free and Joe just picked him up.

I didn't see a replay but it looked to me like one of those classic slightly late, leaving the foot in out of frustration. Hardly a red card or anything like that? Also don't really get your comment about being a media darling/having a halo. He's been targeted for horrific shite from the tabloids and red tops for years, and only in the past 12 months maybe has he been getting a bit of positive media coverage because of how eloquent he's been on racism. He called the media out about their role in it all like so I doubt he's the darling of newsrooms across the country. He got heavy enough criticism for not being more forceful that Bernardo Silva was wrong with all the Mendy stuff as well, the guy can't win really. I do think he was rattled on Sunday but he channelled it into a really good performance that nearly brought them back to 3-2 and momentum was building. But you could see he was close to cracking on Sunday so the fact it's bubbled over, he's clearly rattled with the Anfield crowd and all that.

Southgate has handled this awfully tbh, should have just kept this in house. Going to be made a huge deal now.

But you could see he was close to cracking on Sunday so the fact it's bubbled over, he's clearly rattled with the Anfield crowd and all that. Definitely looks like there's intent, he's actually changed direction and stamped down on the opposite foot that Virgil used to play the ball. He has become a media darling but he's definitely earned it. The way he's spoken out about racism is admirable and it's definitely frightened the red tops that they've done a 180. Even such so that he's not called out on the amount of diving that he does and it seems they are somewhat afraid to criticize when he does have one of those bad games where he misses 7 million chances. I didn't hear much criticism of the Bernardo Silva thing either although I've no opinion on that really. Even the coverage on this incident i don't really find him getting much criticism, he's gone in and tried to physically attack a team mate afterall.

fair enough as I said I didn't see a replay (did find it weird that Sky didn't show a replay at the time).
I saw quite a bit of criticism on the Silva thing because he was asked about it after an England game (I think it was) and his answer was kinda wishy-washy. He got criticised I think because the perception would be he'd be a lot harder/more eloquent about it if it wasn't his teammate
I can see what you mean about getting more of a pass these days but at the same time I don't think it'd take much for the media to turn on him pretty quickly again. They did such a number on him that he was getting booed at places like West Brom lol, like Liverpool fair enough that fanbase has every reason to boo him if they want to but he was such a hate figure that everyone was booing him, it was nuts. I'm happy enough if they're afraid to criticise him after all that nonsense
But aye this stuff with Gomez is unacceptable obviously, be interested if any more comes out about it I saw he's posted an insta about it which isn't really an apology, just an acknowledgement he lost his head which is interesting. I'd be interested to hear Gomez's view of it but I'd say he'll keep quiet as much as possible.
I'm wondering if this'll make an impact like the way the Chelsea-United rivalry supposedly impacted the "Golden Generation".

Southgate has handled this awfully tbh, should have just kept this in house. Going to be made a huge deal now. Completely this wtf is he doing, especially with the grief Sterling gets from the media anyway. Just say he’s got a knock or you wanted to give him a rest, both completely believable with how much football he plays. Not even sure it deserves dropping it from the sound of it, seems an odd reaction to me. Sterling is an idiot for even making this a story though, got to be more mature than that.

Paul Joyce saying Gomez got a scratch under his eye from the incident. prnt.sc/pvv3i5Wondering what actually happened. At first it sounded like just words were exchanged, then it was Sterling tried to grab Gomez by the neck, and now it looks like they had a cat fight. I thought he'd be more pissed at Trent tbh the incident with Gomez seemed pretty trivial at the time.

Easy to just blame Sterling for the whole thing, no one knows if Gomez did anything to provoke the reaction that he got.
Obviously unacceptable, but I think England/Southgate have made it 100x worse than it needed to be. If you’re going to say an altercation took place, you need to be a bit more specific since one of the players is pictured later with a big scratch under his eye.
Drop them both at least, or grow a pair and accept things got heated but its done now and the focus is on getting the best result possible Thursday.

Tbh the blame is going to Sterling because the one consistency in every report, including statments from Southgate, is that Sterling was the instigator and lost his rag whilst Gomez stayed calm and non confrontational.

Also seen that the Liverpool lads were a bit overboard with their 'banter' which seems a bit naive given how the match went.
