So as most of you will know, the BBC has announced plans to move BBC Three to an online only platform and replace it with BBC1+1 whilst keeping BBC Four which, for the second time in two years is under threat of being axed. BBC Three currently shows things like Family Guy, American Dad, Top Gear repeats as well as original shows like Bad Education, Live at the Electric and formerly showed some genuinely quality programmes like How Not to Live Your Life, Two Pints of Lager and Being Human.
Personally, I don't agree with the decision to get rid of it. It isn't what it used to be during its best (imo) years of between 2006 and 2011. Things like Live at the Electric have come in as they try to force some frankly awful British comedy upon us, but BBC Four to most people just isn't something to be interested in. BBC Three has had the 7th highest viewing figures on UK channels in the last quarter and has consistently been one of the most popular channels, despite it's generally young target demographic. All BBC Four has ever had going for it in my eyes was older Charlie Brooker shows, and as he has become more known, he's moved onto BBC Two mostly.
Do you agree with BBC Three being axed? Do you watch it or would you much rather have a +1 channel (although I think with Sky and Virgin offering recording, these are a bit obsolete)? Is the fact that various TV personalities are asking people to sign a petition to save the channel not a massive fucking hint to the BBC?

I say I'm not bothered because it doesn't effect me. I don't watch it. But it is a shame that a BBC channel looking to do something different, for a difference audience has gave way to seemingly cater for the same old people.

BBC 4 spawned the thick of it so it's automatically better than BBC 3. Any good programmes from BBC 3 will find their way onto BBC 1 or 2 or be sold to another network. Also I read that BBC 4 only costs half as much to run as BBC 3.

It was comfortable knowing that when you wanted to watch t.v, i could always rely on Family Guy & American Dad being on. However, I've gotten used to watching shows on my laptop now, so won't be a massive loss.

I think that moving a channel that has a young target demographic to Internet only could be a massive stroke of genius by the bbc. It's a risk but they are going to cut costs and potentially maintain the same viewing figures. If they manage to pull it off whilst still making the same amount of shows (both decent and terrible), I'm all for it.
Tbh though I very rarely watch tv, when I do it's usually something I've pre recorded and never really watch bbc 3 anyway.

I don't think it'll work. I only use iPlayer for MOTD if I miss it of a weekend and I can't see myself going online JUST to watch BBC3.

Is it going to be a live stream or just the content will be available?
I agree that they need to work on their online platform, needs to be comparable to netflix IMO, where you can stream through 6-7 seasons of shows at a time. It always feels like a bit of a mess when you go onto iplayer unless you know exactly what you want to watch

Can't say I blame them for electing to stick with BBC4- they already have 2 channels which are for predominantly "entertainment" purposes. Not that I can say I even distinguished a difference between the two of them. Watched Gavin & Stacey when it was on Gold, and the history programmes they'd occasionally stick on BBC4 I think it was had pretty much been done to a better standard on the History Channel or National Geographic anyway so no major loss if they were on BBC3 at all (I think a couple were).
I'd imagine this is just a prelude to their complete cutting with re: to it going online, but they knew that it would be too big of a deal to remove it straight away.
On a side note, how does BBC2 still exist?

BBC2 still exists 'cause of Eggheads. It's holding the channel together.

I tend to keep BBC1 on after Pointless so I haven't watched it in a while.

not really a massive fan of watching things on my laptop, BBC three after about 11 is good though, double dosage of family guy and American dad.
