You thinking more a city break or just a beach holiday? My girlfriend brought me to San Juan outside Alicante last September and I loved it, we got perfect weather - it was hot and sunny but not unbearable. Although apparently it rained just up the coast in Benidorm for 4 of the days we were in San Juan. It's definitely just a beach location though, spent every day at the beach and just took a break for food (which was unreal). But a lovely beach and my gf says it's where the Spaniards go for their holiday so it's not like Benidorm at all. There is a strip a street or two away from the beach which was buzzing at night but we barely went there tbh. Alicante is about 30 minutes away by tram as well if you want to visit the city, we didn't go there last year but we're going back to the same area this summer and I'm planning on a day in Alicante. Edit: for what it's worth when I asked my gf about Seville she made that Spanish "oof" face and went "que calor" but apparently it's beautiful Well the beauty of Malaga was that it was both. Either or works but priority is somewhere new to us and Seville/Bilbao are the two biggest cities left to tick off really. I had toyed with Alicante as flights will be cheap and staying there rather than Benidorm would be decent so glad it's not a total write off. And yeah literally everything I've seen about Seville mentions the heat right away 🤣 cheers, will look into it.

Amsterdam is a weird place isn't it? Fourth time visiting and I've not known a city like it.
We had all four seasons of weather in a single day, wandered round the lovely canals and took some amazing pictures, enjoyed a really good coffee at a cafe inside an old church, and then paid 2 euros to watch a lady spread her legs and press her bum hole up against the glass.

Anyone ever been to Riga? Been surprised with a trip there for my birthday so I'm going in December.

Been surprised with a trip there for my birthday so I'm going in December. we went there when I was in uni - over 10 years ago ( ) so my memory is fuzzy to say the least I do remember it being a quality trip, there was a great museum which just focussed on being occupied by the Nazis and then the Soviets which I'd highly recommend. It's a lovely city to wander around as well although you'll be frozen in December. I remember the nightlife being great and there was one bar called the Shot Café that was good fun. I have no memory of any other bar or club names but we didn't have any bad experiences.

Well, we're thinking of making Tarifa our base for most of it and spending 4 days in Malaga towards the end of the trip as well. Love the look of Tarifa as a spot and can do a day trip over to Tangiers from there as well. Only downside as a beach location is it's famously windy, so apparently there are days you just can't do a regular beach day as the sand is getting blown into your face - the flipside is it's meant to be great for surfing and you can try windsurfing and that as well. Plan is to rent a car while we're there too so that we can take a spin over to Cadiz or even just to more sheltered beaches nearby.

Can't believe Malaga isn't more popular tbh, it's the perfect city break. Lovely charming old town, great transport links, amazing beach, good climate. Some incredible places to eat too. Jealous of Cadiz, it looks incredible.

Anyone ever been to Riga? Been surprised with a trip there for my birthday so I'm going in December. Was there for an Aberdeen game so wasn't exactly in tourist mode so don't have much more recommendations other than, much like most European capitals now, if you walk 2 mins away from the main square you'll see food and drink prices more than half - although it was still only around normal UK prices in the main square.

+1 for the Malaga recommendation as well. Back there in late November with some mates and it's a great long weekend city break destination

Got back from Krakow on Monday night and I think that’s my favourite city I’ve travelled to and I’ll definitely be returning provided the Russians chill out
I’ve wanted to go for a few years and have missed out on a couple of occasions so a chance came up this month so I had to get involved. Auschwitz didn’t hit me emotionally as much as I thought it would but it was just an uncomfortable experience. I hate to even say it but I found Birkenau almost impressive in the scale of it. Obviously knowing how it was built and for what purpose I’m not going to call it some marvel but a project of that size and scale built out of pure hate is crazy to even think about. What I was genuinely shocked by were the women’s barracks, not just these inhumane living conditions but also the fact that they were filled with graffiti from people who’ve visited since it was opened as a museum. Surely even the most basic level of thinking and respect would stop you from doing something like that
As for the city itself, it was fascinating to see the architecture particularly in the Jewish quarter with the old ghetto wall and some of the other, old preserved buildings. We stayed in the main square in the city centre so we had access to everything within a 10-15 minute walk but we only stayed for 3 nights so I’d like to go back and see more

Just back from a weekend in Belfast and honestly, ehhh. I’d been when I was younger for family reasons but really didn’t think much of it. I thought I was going mad when my mates were saying they were gutted to be going home when I was ready to leave halfway through the second day. I think for them it was more of a drinking holiday whereas I wanted to do all the political stuff. We did do a black cab tour when we arrived which was really interesting but that was it. Everything else was just sinking the ale and I can’t really be bothered with that most of the time now
It was bizarre though looking at the segregated areas and how prominent the murals in both and the Union flags are in the loyalist areas. Our driver was quite open about his allegiances but didn’t preach anything really, he was really quite good and neutral. Being from a majority Protestant family myself and having links to the Order, I still just found it fucking jarring especially as my own beliefs politically and religiously are completely different to theirs
It is a nice city but I don’t think I’d really go back for more than a day or so, which is good because it’s a half an hour flight over

Try Derry or Donegal next time, the difference is eye opening.

Yes we went a few years ago and started at Derry and then went along the coast road ending at Belfast. Would certainly recommend that. Think we had one day in each city and then a couple days going along the coast road.

I did the Game of Thrones day tour along the coast with the Giant’s Causeway thrown in a few years back which was pretty decent.
Back in Belfast the cab tour deffo took a turn when the driver bumped into an ex-UVF man he had history with, mind.

Maybe this is my bias but if you were planning a trip to Ireland it has to be along the wild Atlantic way. Donegal itself is class like and Connemara is in a world of its own.
