The water park is seawater and someone nearly died on one of the slides last year. I did enjoy the water park though.

Hoping in ten years time when I’m going on 40th’s and my former brother in laws second stag do, I can come on here and get the same level of response. A finer set of lads you couldn’t ask for.

Feel like I’ve made up for Benidorm here. Booked 13 nights in Italy for next summer. 6 in Florence, 5 near Lake Garda and 2 in Venice.

I spend at least 4 weeks in Italy every year, love the place. Going for Christmas this year as well, think Empoli vs Inter is the game I'll catch this time.
There's so much to do/see in Italy but you often have to do quite a bit of travelling to see it, as well as heading out early doors cause the heat can be unbearable at times in the summer.
Off to Albufeira next week for my mates 30th, have a feeling it's going to be pretty dead for the most part. It wasn't exactly busy last time I went with my mates and that was the first week in October.

Me and my mates are planning on heading there next year for a big joint 30th, we hardly ever see eachother these days and all our birthdays are real close together so it was a drunken idea at the last meetup. Hopefully the details get firmed up soon because next year is already looking pretty full of weddings and stags ffs Would love to see more of Italy, fell in love with Rome when I was there. Cinque Terre is meant to be incredible but overrun with tourists now

My girlfriend's Dad lives in a tiny village in Umbria and is fully immersed in the Italian way of life so we get to see all of the true Italian culture rather than anything annoyingly touristy, mainly because her Dad is used to paying less than a euro for a cappuccino so he's fucking fuming if we have to go to a touristy place and they start charging 3-4 euros hahaha. I think the only place I've been other than Rome that was overrun with tourists was Cortona due to Under the Tuscan Sun and I actually didn't find the place that impressive lol, you just get loads of American's there because of the book.
We regularly go to places like Spoleto, Foligno, Gubbio, Perugia, Citta Della Pieve, Montegabbione, Bettona, Bolsena and Bagnoregio. If you're ever in the Umbria region I can tell you an absolute shit load of things to do and where you'll find the best ice cream in the world.
I've made it one of my goals to learn Italian because literally no one speaks any English in the places we go so we end up having to translate through my girlfriend's step mam.

Plus I went in February so I'm assuming I missed the worst of it. I'd like to go back and explore the city a little more rather than doing the touristy bits but what you're describing is what I love doing most when I go away. When I was in France last year, I went to Paris and did the Louvre over a day or two. I didn't even go to the Eiffel Tower, after my first day I was then able to stay with a mate of mine I knew from years ago when I was on Erasmus. He lives in a place called L'Isle Adam, about 45 minutes outside Paris. Ended up having an amazing few days because he just drove me around, took me to little restaurants and things even within Paris itself that were cheap and authentic. And it ended up that we went to Monet's house and garden because Giverny is really close to where he's from - Monet is one of my favourite painters and it was just by accident that I mentioned that to him. He tailored 2 days of tourist stuff for me based on that, visited Van Gogh's grave and saw the Church at Auvers in person as well as the painting itself in the Orsay Museum. Same thing happened when I went to Barca 6 years ago, another friend from Erasmus met us and took us to all the local restaurants and cheaper areas, saw some great parts of the city. Bit of a ramble but essentially - having a bit of local knowledge improves a trip 100 times over.

We went to Rome in December, I loved the typical things like the Colosseum etc but hated the stuff in between, I'm just not a fan of the hectic nature of that kind of stuff. Can't imagine being stuck on the underground in Rome when it's packed and boiling. Because her Dad knew exactly what he was doing we were in and out of Rome in no time.
It's like having your own tour guide, they know the cheap places to eat(often nicer than the expensive places), where to park, which days to avoid because of festivals or markets that you'd have no clue if you were on your own. Definitely want to go to Florence, I've been for a Fiorentina match but we only went for the game. I think it's one of those places where you could do with staying over and doing a few places up there like Siena.
As a side note, I'm not a fan of churches/cathedrals but the ones in Italy are really nice. I remember when I went to the cathedral in Cologne and it creeped me the fuck out, it was dead dark and weird. The ones in Italy tend to be brighter and have nice paintings inside although the one at Assisi did creep me out a little bit but I think that was because of people walking around crying rather than the place itself.
