If a person doesn’t think that there is a God to be accountable to, then what’s the point of trying to modify your behavior to keep it within acceptable ranges?

Well how do you go about your day keeping your behaviour within an acceptable range? We've got laws. We've got people's reactions to our actions. We chisel out our own moral compass over time based on our experiences. I also would not accept that religion has "acceptable" behavioural ranges - religion has multiple disgusting values to live by. If one requires an imaginary dictator who commands you how to live your life to decide what is right and wrong I would suggest that that person is very weak mentally, overly impressionable and in dire need of assistance.

Have you not seen Spotlight? No, but I've just googled it and I shall certainly watch it. After I've watched Dragonball Super.

This has affected you way more than it should have though. On the whole I agree with you at the core of religion there is some nasty stuff that goes on but the average religious person are good people, can't say that I know a mentally weak religious person.
Is Floyd Mayweather "mentally weak"?

In addition to this, I would state that religious people often believe they are above the law because they answer to their God, not man, hence why we get cornucopaic instances of Catholic pastors protecting each other's backs when it comes down to child fucking and suchlike. A simple google search of "why do the religious believe they're above the law" will herald plenty of examples.

On the whole I agree with you at the core of religion there is some nasty stuff that goes on but the average religious person are good people, can't say that I know a mentally weak religious person. Is Floyd Mayweather "mentally weak"? It has lead me to look into things more deeply and I've realised how it truly is. Now how I've been lead down this path is irrelevant, I still speak to my Mum on a daily basis and I live with her until I move out in May/June. Don't be so stupid as to assume that because my mum has decided to become a Jovo that my opinions backed up by fact are irrelevant or in any way less valid than someone who sits back with the "I'm alright me, Chuck" attitude like most on here. If Floyd Mayweather truly believes in a God then he is mentally weak in at least one aspect of his mind, yes. Amusingly I've got BBC1 on behind me and "The Big Questions" has just come on, a discussion of Catholic child rape and Atheism. How apt.

Have you not seen Spotlight? No, but I've just googled it and I shall certainly watch it. After I've watched Dragonball Super. It's based on a true story and there's an estimation in it that 6% of all Catholic priests have molested children. It is sickening and the film goes to show how much power the church has in the States. The answer? Too much. I remember reading something a few years ago that there was a strong positive correlation between atheism and IQ in the US. Obviously this doesn't mean that you're thick if you believe in God, or does that mean IQ shows anything other than one's ability to take an IQ test. Nevertheless, it's an interesting statistic.

If you truly believe in a religious superpower then you're either brainwashed by church propaganda or mentally ill

Lads whilst I appreciate the PPD boost this religious argument is bringing to SNC I'd much rather we discussing which Pokemon we'd rather trade.
Seriously though, keep it clean don't make personal digs.
