Hart, Forster, Foster Walker, Johnson, Cahill, Lescott, Jagieka, Baines, Cole, Jones Barkley, Wilshire, Gerrard, Carrick, Britton/Barry, Milner, Lampard Rooney, Sturridge, Walcott, Townsend, Lambert/Welbeck
Always been of the opinion that Britton would be a good option to have in our squad, especially to help calm things in midfield when we inevitable get nervous and start throwing away possession. Barry's form has been strong this season but his positioning isn't up to scratch at this level. The idea of him playing against Ozil again or Oscar or Valbuena is frightening.

Barry and Britton fit the systems they play perfectly though. England don't play like that, you need someone more dynamic and mobile at international level. Barry's having a good season yeah, but you can't take only that into account with him.

So what's the consensus on this now? Couple more months to observe, and just a few short months till the squad's announced in May.
Hart Forster Foster
Johnson Walker Jagielka Cahill Jones Lescott Baines Shaw
Barry Carrick Gerrard Wilshire Henderson Barkley
Lallana Milner Young Welbeck
Rooney Sturridge
For me, the people that have comfortably taken their name out of the hat are Walcott (sadly), Ashley Cole, Smalling, Townsend and the three losers of the stunning fatal fourway of average strikers battling it out to make it on the plane by default between Carroll, Lambert, Rodriguez and Welbeck.

Ashley Cole has to go, has consistently been one of England's best players, is still very solid and has a lot of experience to offer. He is proven in a way that Baines and Shaw aren't. There's plenty of time for Shaw again, one last hurrah for Ashley Cole I'd say is the right way to do it.
Oxlade-Chamberlain will be in the squad now to replace Walcott. Townsend will probably make it too based on his performances in the previous qualifiers. Club form is worth something but previous performances internationally are also worth something too. If you're trying to make a team, you can't chop and change every squad.

Ashley Cole hasn't taken his name out the equation at all, neither has Townsend, you'd be mad to think so. Chucking an 18 year old with no international experience on the plane ahead of him would be a fucking joke. We don't have enough options to just disregard players like that.
Anyway I reckon Carroll and Adam Johnson will make it, and I would take 7 defenders and consider Phil Jones a second right-back and leave out Walker, we need the options in attack.

If being picked on form then Sterling has to go ahead of the likes of Townsend, Young, Milner,Lennon and Oxlaide-Chamberlain.

surely since townsend was great in the two friendlies he's warranted a place?
also walker's been pretty great for us this year, we'd be silly to take johnson over him

Rodriguez would be included a striker and Young as a midfielder so i don't see the conflict

Chamberlain scored against Brazil in Brazil and was very good when he came on. Given that he has major tournament experience already and has been decent since coming back from injury, he should go ahead of Sterling.
And Welbeck should definitely go. He has scored fairly consistently for England and usually played very well, and he has one of the better scoring records of English players at minute in the league. He has scored 8 goals in his 20 games for England as opposed to Carroll and Sturridge's 2 in 9 games, Walcott's 5 in 36, it's definitely worth a squad place.
Young shouldn't go.

I like Chamberlain but he's much better in the centre then as a winger where he's very wasteful. If Sterling keeps up his form he really has to be on the plane.
