only thing i’ve really taken from that is that the 4-2-3-1 with firmino off the top works well against teams sitting deep as was proved at times during 2018-19. it also gave wijnaldum a bit more freedom to move about back in the midfield after he’d stunk for the first half. if we were to sign thiago it’s also a system he has thrived in with bayern so i’m quite happy to see it when the usual 4-3-3 isn’t possible

Minamino looked really good when we came on too. He seemed a bit like a headless chicken the sub appearances he made last season I thought, but he was much better then.
Obviously it’s a glorified friendly but thought that was a decent watch, Maitland-Niles was really good, Saka too, Nketiah is so frustrating though, needs to be more clinical than that.

I see Liverpool are doing a Nadal.
Shame we'll have to discount their title win.

Someone's gonna have to explain this for me because I'm not putting "Liverpool drugs" into my Twitter knowing my phone is likely already on a watch list.

Apparently a large proportion of Liverpool's players are asthmatic which you can treat legally with steroids, arguably suspicious for a team that plays as hard as they do. Personally think all clubs are doing something somewhat dodgy nowadays and the powers that be just don't care at all as long as it's not too blatent, if they started looking too deep the whole tower would fall.

meanwhile city have bought their 9th club, fourth in europe, which means it is now actually possible that within the next decade or so we could have a champions league group made entirely of clubs owned by city football group

Yeah they're all at it so I can't see it as much as I'd like to.

Leo Messi would be 4ft if Barca hadn’t pumped him full of bison testosterone as a 14 year old tbf.

It did have a bit of a 2010 barca vibe how they used the same 13 5ft3 men 60 games a season 4 years straight.

I mean Trent should definitely win it but I think there needs to be a long overdue shake up to this award. Trent and Rashford are established players now playing 40-50 games a season for their clubs, how are the likes of Saka and Greenwood going to get recognition?
Not sure why Mason Mount is there though, I don't rate him anywhere near as highly as anyone else on the list. Also not sure about the clamouring for Reece James and Phil Foden to be on the list, neither have shown enough for me tbh.

I think Mount has done enough to warrant it, he's been good for Chelsea and cemented his place. That latter point is why I don't think Foden should be there, he hasn't done enough to warrant it.
Surely there's some players at teams lower down the league who've excelled though?

only player I wouldn't have in either of the two lists is Sterling for POTY. Form was very patchy, he was a non entity for about 2 months after the Gomez incident

Isn't that a bit of a contradiction though? To say Mount and Foden shouldnt really be there but Trent and Rashford are too established? It would be good if it was a kind of breakthrough award but you just end up with overly subjective parameters to win it.
