League and cup aren't one and the same Sure but without trying to take the piss the reason Spurs have had the label stick a lot easier is cause you win neither. The biggest game of their season was last Saturday and even with Evans's injury in the first half they won it. Obviously the ending to the league was disapppointing but you can't really be bottlers if you win your biggest game of the season. True enough and there's nothing I can say to that without looking like a chopper with double standards But to take this back to the other debate how many of those times Spurs didn't win a league or cup or finish in a CL place did they have it in their own hands or have any right to be talking about winning in the first place. You can't throw away something you never had a hold of Even the example Benneh is talking about and everyone always goes back to, Chelsea v Spurs in 2016 we had never been within six points (probably more than that I'm playing it safe) of the top of the league all season and were in second for a few weeks pretty much by default the way everyone else was dropping points. We were never in a title race but are constantly told we bottled a season we overachieved in. We didnt win or lose or throw anything away in that game, its a big derby and we had a squad packed with immature shitheads So the only things I can conclusively say about the concept of bottling is that the term has been overused to the point of no real meaning or impact and will probably only continue to exist to wrap a neat little bow on any bollocks opinion piece on Tottenham

Bottled has replaced a lot of other words by the looks of it. Boro have bottled this season and finished 10th, when I was young we just called that being shite.

Fwiw some teams do bottle it but it’s nowhere near as common as is made out. I’d tend to only use bottlejobs for teams who were supposed to do something and never. Leicester aren’t supposed to finish top 4.
Leicester’s most expensive player of all time would have been Chelsea’s 5th highest transfer fee last summer.

Cos they’re weird as fuck, how do you not know this Stu have you said anything good about Harry Redknapp? Ever? He relegated us and took us to the brink of liquidation. Little bit different to Hodgson.

What did Redknapp specifically do to take you to the brink of liquidation? Hodgson took a team that finished 7th the season before, which was actually considered a massive underachievement considered we’d finished top 3 for the previous four seasons, and had it just above the relegation zone in January and would’ve gotten us relegated or at very best, bottom half, if we hadn’t pulled the plug when we did. Maybe blame your board for not sacking him soon enough tbh Stu. Sounds like a Southampton issue more than a Redknapp one.

What’s everyone’s team of the season? We’ve all been watching much more football than usual I assume
Martinez; Coufal, Dias, Maguire, Shaw; Gundogan, Soucek, Fernandes; Son, Kane, Salah

He relegated us and took us to the brink of liquidation. Little bit different to Hodgson. Do the people signing the cheques not take the blame for the financial aspect? Yes and Rupert Lowe is regularly wished to swing from the Itchen Bridge. No one solely blamed Redknapp. Is it just a coincidence that every club the guy managed was close to financial ruin within a couple of years of him being there? Its pretty common knowledge the way he went about transfers. And us getting close to liquidation was a lot to do with him getting us relegated so soon after building St Marys and then losing the Premier League money. He was also bought in to keep us up, not like he was here for 2 years beforehand. Then you have him leaving us and instantly going back to Pompey. Not sure what else he could do to make his reputation any worse. But yeah, he’s an angel compared to Hodgsons Liverpool reign.

We’ve all been watching much more football than usual I assume Martinez; Coufal, Dias, Maguire, Shaw; Gundogan, Soucek, Fernandes; Son, Kane, Salah Cancelo in for Shaw and possibly Mount in for Son but otherwise agreed. Mount in for Son is just a personal preference too, I think Son dipped after the New Year (so did Spurs as a whole) but Mount was great all season, just nowhere near as productive goals wise. It's most definitely a biased decision seeing as I'd have watched a lot more Chelsea than Spurs too tbh
