Everything that I hate about the OGS tenure wrapped in one game. Weird starting XI, weird formation, laden with individual errors to the point that coaching and tactics comes into question, reactive and not proactive, slow to react, bizarre fucking subs, reliant on individual quality to brute force their way out of a losing position, general cluelessness in style of play unless it's Bruno on the ball.
Meanwhile the ex-Utd alumni in mainstream punditry positions engage in mental gymnastics to avoid saying what everyone else sees, even that bitter Irishman who claims he says it like it is.
So it's all set for him to beat City on the weekend and survive for another month and stagger through Einstein's definition of insanity once again.

Both teams accusing the fourth official in the PSG game of racial abuse and are refusing to play on. The abuse Micah Richards is getting on line for not immediately condemning the fourth official involved is disgusting. And also, generally, is it racist or just in poor taste to use someone's colour to describe them if it's not being done negatively? To my understanding, the players issue was that they thought he used a racial slur, but instead he was speaking in Romanian - in which case there's a horrible storm brewing when they find out what the Spanish language uses for colours.

Like Demba Ba said, they would never say "the white guy" when pointing out someone. Why say "the black one" or whatever it was? Why not "the assistant manager" or "that guy"? It's a good example of the small things imo. On a sliding scale, probably not the worst thing ever uttered on a football pitch but I still think the players were right to make a stand.

Yeah I think the Romanian word they're saying was used is "negru" which essentially translates as him saying "the black one".
Was he trying to be racist? Extremely doubtful. Was it short-sighted and poorly chosen language to use when there were plenty of other descriptors that could be used? Absolutely.

If I described a fellow worker as 'the black one' at work I'd probably be due a disciplinary hearing tbh. Ultimately this is their work place which is often forgotten. I don't think the guys racist, but it is clearly insensitive which is something workplaces should aim to reduce.
Also fwiw Terry only ever called Ferdinand a 'black cunt' and Ferdinand was playing with Joey Barton so Terry definitely needed a way to differentiate between the two of them. He wasn't found guilty of racism but was reprimanded and punished by his employer which could be seen as a similar idea.

The (not so) funny thing is that the racist abuse directed at Richards and Barnes online following their comments on the situation is worse than anything that happened in the game last night.
No one seems to care about that but the official who, in my opinion, phrased himself poorly with no intended malice will now forever be condemned as a racist.
It seems crazy to me.

I do agree with that but I’m at the point where I kind of think ignorance cannot be an excuse any more, it’s not enough to say I didn’t educate myself enough to not know saying “that Black guy” is offensive. Where will we draw the line? There’s always an excuse, and when there isn’t, it’s “an isolated incident” and not worthy of wider change. And the world spins on.

I was all for VAR, first time we saw it, was it the World Cup? I thought it was well used. Slowly it’s been doing my head in ever since, the use of it seems to be getting worse and worse and tonight might be the final straw.
In an actual meaningless game we have almost spent as much time in this second half watching VAR replays as actual football. It’s been pathetic. Genuinely don’t care for the outcome, but the long stoppages and severe lack of communication has been dreadful. By far the worst use of VAR I’ve seen. They have come across as amateurs.

Every time there was a check we had to watch the same useless replay 20 times over whilst waiting for them to decide, and then 5 minutes after a decision was made we were eventually shown a single replay from the angle that actually mattered - and from that angle each decision was so painfully obvious that the check should have been done in 20 seconds.

Wish they'd just sack the champions League off this year because it's becoming a farce

Difficult to imagine the kind of scenario it would take for Salah to square it to Mane while through on goal

Leipzig really disappointing there. Front 3 don’t look threatening at all. Feel like Liverpool could regret not scoring as they’re surely not that bad again.

Most I've enjoyed watching us for a while that first half. Players seem a lot sharper than they have been in a while, high tempo pressing, crisp passing, good first touches and actually created some good chances.
The inevitable 1-0 loss will be a real shame.

Both ties over if they finish this way. Really poor from both home sides, Liepzig especially look massively off the boil. Meanwhile Barcelona have just reverted to blatant cheating.
