Was thinking about this on the way home, there's such a broad range of criteria to decide whether a player is 'worthy' of a statue. It's somewhat easy to class someone as a legend, that's just terminology, but a statue? That's reserved to the absolute few, those who have had a special place in their sides history. Or at least it should do (We're ignoring the Jackson statue at Craven Cottage).
Does your club have any statues at the ground? Do you agree with those they've chosen? Do you think there should be more?
At the Emirates, we've got Herbert Chapman looking over the ground, Henry doing his kneeslide, Bergkamp taking the ball out of the air and Adams with his arms out after clinching the title. A statue for Wenger has been mooted for years, but so far nothing. Controversial amongst Arsenal fans but I don't necessarily think Bergkamp should have got one - I think Wright probably deserves one.
It's strange to think of current players who might get one, but City said Aguero, Kompany and Silva were all due one. I get Aguero, not sure on the other two though, although not really my place to say but I feel like they fall into the Pires/Fabregas category with us, top 10 player but maybe not quite stand-out enough for a statue?

We’ve got Shankley on his own and Paisley with Emlyn Hughes. Quite happy with just those two at the minute, the only reason candidates beyond that are Joe Fagan and Kenny, who already has a stand named after him obviously.
I prefer naming part of the ground after them than a statue tbh. It’s mad looking at a ticket and seeing the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand on it. Not that I ever willingly sit in that stand it’s a last resort.
As for the City point you mention I think Aguero is the easiest to make a statue of because it’s just something from the QPR goal, either the strike itself or the celebration. But it’s hard to find a pivotal Silva moment. The pass to Dzeko in the 6-1? I think he deserves one cos he’s their best player ever.

So Newcastle have stands named after Jackie Milburn and Sir John Hall and statues for Alan Shearer and Sir Bobby Robson. An Alan Shearer statue should be the easiest thing in the world to do, everyone knows the pose, and in true Mike Ashley-era Newcastle he’s celebrating while pointing his index finger in the air. Kevin Keegan is the obvious one that 100% needs a statue before he dies, but he’s so outspoken against the current regime that who knows how long he’ll have to wait.

We have a shiny gold cockerel on top of the stadium that keeps watch over Tottenham like a probation officer

Got Nat Lofthouse outside the stadium. Pose is him leading the team out for the '58 final because him smashing Harry Gregg into the back of the net would be a bit egregious.
No one else really deserves one. Maybe Charles Foweraker who was manager in the 1920s but I'm not sure many people know what he looks like tbh.

Chelsea have just the one. Peter Osgood. He played for Chelsea in the 60s and 70s and is fifth in our all time scorers list.
Should any further statutes be added in the future the obvious names would the likes of Terry, Lampard, Cech, Drogba etc.

He's certainly worthy based on what he achieved for Chelsea. His contribution to the club was enormous. Having said that it seems unlikely. Any further statutes at all are unlikely until such a time the stadium is redeveloped anyway but there would be plenty of names ahead of him imo.

David Silva can be so overrated. Really good player but Aguero is hands down City's best player since the money came in. Yaya arguably had a bigger impact in his good seasons. Kompany was the captain and sort of a Terry-like presence about the club as they established themselves. De Bruyne miles and miles and miles ahead of Silva as well as a player.
Silva was great at times but people don't half go overboard with him like.
Don't really see the fuss about statues, I like the Osgood one and really if another was being made Lampard is the only player I think you'd pick out. Otherwise you'd end up down a rabbit hole picking loads from that Mourinho side, never mind more recent mainstays and the likes of Zola as well.

The only player who deserves either a statue or a stand named after them is Rickie Lambert. Markus Liebherr deserves something as well for saving the club off the pitch.
