Roy can't justify taking Cole over Shaw at the World Cup.
Wouldn't expect Shaw to get a game cos of Baines, but the experience of being away at a major tournament will be vital in 4 years time when he's the starting left back.

Shaw wouldn't be fazed at all if he had to come in due to injury or suspension, he'd do well I think. even if you took him as a starter i wouldn't even put him down as most likely to let you down or make a mistake. obviously I can see the reasons to bring cole, but for your long term future bringing shaw is the better choice. cole isn't even getting a game is he?

I've never seen someone blindly defend their players as much as Mike does. Especially when he only sees one match live every two seasons.

I don't get how Mike can claim that Clyne should be in ahead of Johnson then say that Cole should be in ahead of Shaw. Both Johnson and Cole have gone to alright but while Shaw's an automatic starter and probably one of the form players in the league this season, Clyne has been sitting on the bench for most.

I get what Stu is saying to be fair. Baines is going to be the starting left-back and it's very rare that the back-up would get used so why not take Shaw who's played regular football, it gives him great experience for future World Cups too. Cole hasn't played much for Chelsea, has been and done it all before, absolutely no use him sitting there as back-up whilst Shaw's at home twiddling his thumbs when he could be out there gaining first hand experience at a World Cup. Watching him this season I wouldn't worry if he did have to play either.

Got to take Shaw over Cole for me, like I said. Baines is nailed on first choice, quite rightly, and he's probably going to play every game without injury, so this is probably a moot point, but can't take someone who hasn't played regularly since what? September maybe? Having actually watched a few Southampton games throughout the season I think Shaw is a solid full back, and probably far more reliable than a non-match fit Cole would be.
If we're talking right backs too, then genuinely, through lack of over-impressive rivals, Callum Chambers has the next two months to make a serious claim he should go over Clyne/Johnson if he plays well. All of this being said, I'd not take a 2nd right back, you're going to have Jones, Smalling etc probably going who can all cover, 4 players for the full back positions only is a bit much.

Mid table premier league side lol, fuck off Mike
Only reason we dropped down the league is cos of injures to Boruc, Lovren, Shaw, Wanyama and Ramirez. Up until then we'd played most of the sides in the league and beaten them, being in the top 6 on merit.
Not saying we'd have stayed there but to call us a midtable team when we're like 8 clear of 10th is a bit harsh.

Call me boring but we have 3 good left backs, whichever two go I couldn't give a flying fuck, same with people who debate which two from Townsend/Sterling/Oxlade-Chamberlain/Johnson/Lennon go, they're all of a roughly similar ability I wouldn't have thought these would be makong dramas in heads
People also debate who should go as the third choice keeper, cos these things are vital in life apparently

Which justifies your want for Lampard to be there. Let's take players who actually play regularly so we have a barometer of if they're any fucking good.
With that abundance of evidence we have that Cole can hack it at a World Cup in Brazil, when he could barely handle it in a South African winter, 4 years ago.
Bullshit, yet another Chelsea player who is so-so when we get to the big stage, great in qualifying but nothing more than decent in the tournament.
Can only imagine what you'd think if Johnson had stayed at Chelsea. Clyne isn't a better full back than Johnson, at all. Not yet, not by a long stretch, which is why Clyne has been replaced in this "mid-table PL side" (destroying your own argument here ffs) by an 18 year old. Johnson has spent the entire season injured and has still managed 18 league games, and he's doing it for a top 4 side, so he must be able to cope with a world cup in Brazil more easily than Clyne surely?
Ps if we're having anyone being understudy to Kyle Walker we may as well give up on the next five tournaments, because he's a dreadful defender and a pretty awful all-round footballer. So short sighted you are Mike.

He definitely isn't. He can't cross a ball higher than 3 feet and can't defend, plays too high up the pitch so fast players can run behind nice and easily.
