That was... an exceptional adaptation. I genuinely feel like I'm grieving now that it's finished. Completely faultless imo, although I remember the ending in the book being a little less amicable, but that may be just how I took it at the time.
"Just because people treat you badly doesn't mean you deserve to be treated that way" is a line in the book which still absolutely cuts me up. They picked a beautiful part of the show to drop that shtoomer in. Fuck.

Honestly don’t know which deadline day in STID I preferred. Rodwell ruining their entire plans for the window or Stewart Donald paying 3 times what his manager said he was worth for Will Grigg. Also convinced Charlie Methven and Martin Bain are both Ricky Gervais characters Charlie Methven has huge 'Apprentice candidate's week 10 PM task is to run a League One football club' energy Stewart Donald himself has a very Brent-ian cadence and voice, noticed that right away as well

"Just because people treat you badly doesn't mean you deserve to be treated that way" is a line in the book which still absolutely cuts me up. They picked a beautiful part of the show to drop that shtoomer in. Fuck. the ending of the book is different, I mean the result is the same but it's more "sudden" in the book if that makes sense? I thought they were really clever in how they structured the last episode, that the e-mail arrives early on and they have time to think and do other things before the proper decision at the end. In the book, the e-mail arrives and they have that talk pretty much immediately. It still feels true to both characters, the result is the same, but I definitely think the TV presented this better. If they'd done a straight scene for scene from the book I feel like it would have been way too jarring an ending for a TV show. Grieving is definitely the word, bereft also has come up in conversations with friends (eh? eh? geddit?). Episode 10 is the one I really felt, same as jonaldinho2004. My friend said to me "we've all been to that funeral" and that is such a sad truth.

Just read there that The Last Dance was held back all these years because Jordan wouldn't give the go-ahead. Coming across as a bit of an arrogant arse at times and considering it's basically a MJ propeganda piece makes you wonder what other footage they have of him
Scottie Pippin though, you could release a smooth jazz album with his voice

Yeah MJ seems like a bit of a dick. It’s partly his drive which is probably why he’s so good, but the footage of him interacting with people back in the 90s is all a bit awkward. Can tell he’s very much a control freak used to having things his own way. There aren’t any stories about MJ doing something really kind or anything like that I’ve noticed, just all about how driven and good at basketball he was.
Magic Johnson on the other hand seems like a lovely bloke

He’s one of the biggest dickheads I’ve ever seen in any professional sport. Bullied Bill Cartwright and Horace Grant, punched his own team mate in the face during practice and sees himself as the sole reason the Bulls ever became good, despite the fact they never sniffed a championship until Pippen came into his own. He was a great player and probably the best ever but for a lot of people the only reason for his status as the GOAT is because he never lost in the finals, whereas his closest competitor as GOAT is 3-5 in the Finals (with significantly worse teams for most of those). His post playing career was an absolute disaster as well.

It's all new to me but I'm loving it and might actually start watching NBA if sport ever gets back
He seems like an absolute dickhead but he sees nothing wrong it coz he wants to win, to me at least. Like everyone is saying it's a propaganda piece/he had editorial power etc., but I don't really see what else they could cover that's being hidden here? Like even the last episode I watched there was the stuff about Horace Grant leaking for that Sam Smith book but it gave a few different perspectives, it's not like it just said "Horace Grant was the leak, and none of it was true".
Was listening to an Irish pod earlier and they have a regular US contributor who gave a bit more context on some of the stuff, like the gambling. I mean if it was truly a total Michael Jordan propaganda exercise, why spend any time on that at all? They covered it and painted him in a good light, but tbh it doesn't matter how they frame that whole segment it looks really bad. He also said that they were talking to Mychal Thompson who said that vast majority at that level are mean dickheads, Jordan was just unapologetic about it. The likes of Magic Johnson would have just as many
The major thing I really don't like is how Jerry Krause doesn't seem to have anyone fighting his corner or providing his POV all that often.

I think Krause is sort of being blackballed there because the current Bulls organisation had to approve it as well. Krause was known for being a bit of an attention seeker and a bit ruthless, but at the same time a fundamentally sound well intentioned person who helped bring a lot of success to the Bulls. It just happens that John Paxson, who while part of the Bulls dynasty, is also the current general manager and is known for being everything Krause wasn’t. I think it’s sort of a “well look, I’m terrible at my job but so was this other guy” thing.

There's talk Jordan waited to release the documentary till now when talk of LeBron is at its peak about him being the GOAT. Wouldn’t surprise me if he's been holding off all these years waiting till his popularity waivers a bit to give it a boost. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that majority of people who will watch the documentary are those that wouldn’t have been alive to see him play. I think most people who lived in the era of both go Jordan as the GOAT and those that haven’t say LeBron.
MJ is the GOAT 100% for me every time. He's just the epitome of a sportsman and winner. Give a fuck if he's a dick, we're talking about the greatest basketball player of all time, not the best human. I don’t know why that always comes up in the GOAT conversation. If there's a game you're betting your life on to win, there’s no player I would pick over Jordan.
Krause made some bold decisions but they always pretty much paid off. I think his ego got the better of him near the end which leaves a sour taste. You just don't try to completely dismantle a team that is still number 1. And the fact the Bulls haven’t excelled since is why he’ll get so much flack (probably deservedly so). I think the problem with GOAT conversations now is we’re in the era of looking only at stats and what people do outside sport etc. Fuck that
Good documentary but not a fan of the mixed timeline

I think the mixed timeline is great, it’s like a far more successful version of The Damned United

When he’s talking about his dad and then it shows him after the 93 championship just bawling on the ground I found that difficult to watch.
That 96 team was a joke as well. It’s crazy that record was ever beaten but not at all surprising that it was beaten by a team coached by Steve Kerr (well, technically).
