being a big club because of your history means fuck all these days. no-one cares about playing for villa because they won the european cup 30 years ago. they're just another lower mid table premier league team now

They're not really though are they, they're still a bigger club than someone like Stoke or West Brom, who are also lower midtable clubs.

Rather play a game of musical statues with the Franks than go to Stoke.

I still wouldn't say they're not a big club. I know that's not what you've said but they're still one of England's best teams in Europe. You're right like, it's not gonna attract anyone in the same way people don't go to Madrid for their dominance in the 50s. They're shite at present and attract shite players.

There are only 6\7 important clubs in the PL. After that a player will not care if he goes to Burnley or Newcastle, as long as one of them pays him well.

Its true though. Players will have rejected Newcastle to go to a 'smaller' club cause theyd pay more money. Players probably dont care greatly about reputation.

If your club hasn't won a trophy in 15 years you're not a big club.
Not so fast Newcastle.

Players probably dont care greatly about reputation. colback didn't, was getting more if he went to west ham by all accounts. plus our scouts have talked about players from the likes of holland and france massively valuing playing at SJP in front of 50k-ish every week. i don't doubt that it has happened that way, but i bet it's also happened where we've offered less a lot of the time. it looks like i'm just blindly defending newcastle but to equate us with burnley is ridiculous, footballers don't want to play for relegation candidates every year for the sake of an extra few thousand
