I don't know the rules or anything so I doubt I'll even try and keep up I'll just be drinking and enjoying the atmosphere.
Assuming you can drink in the stands similar to rugby?

I don't know the rules or anything so I doubt I'll even try and keep up I'll just be drinking and enjoying the atmosphere. Assuming you can drink in the stands similar to rugby? I'm not 100% sure about drinking in the stands to be honest it's been a few years since I was at a game. They have bars obviously but I don't think you can bring the drinks to your seats - saying that it's only 35 minutes a half, you won't notice it fly by. How'd you get the tickets? You're in for a treat with hurling to be honest, hope you get a decent match too so it's a sellout, Croker looks awful half full Mycon in all honesty I'd say it's a combination of great play from Monaghan but also he looked very lethargic (as did the whole team). I get the feeling the 3 matches and training caught up with them, as well as the toughest match of the lot coming today. There's no doubt Monaghan have a bit of a jinx on Donegal psychologically and physically you's are brilliant.. But if this was round 1 I think we'd win. Tactically Rory hasn't really changed things up. He hjnted at it after the Armagh game, he said tactics are overrated and it comes down to "good players playing well". That didn't happen today but the disappointing thing is all the wides. We came out after half time and won the first 5 possessions - 4 wides and a point. Too innaccurate to deserve the trophy. Also what O'Rourke has done in Monaghan is brilliant. I wish a county like Kildare or Meath took notice because all the shite talk about the competitiveness of the game does my head in

Kilkenny are the greatest hurling team ever so you should be in for a treat whoever they end up facing. It's the biggest competition of the year, Championship is the be all and end all - nobody gives a fuck about the league. So the atmosphere should be good.

Croker near sam is the place to be. Tbh I'd rather watch hurling than gaelic, better to watch imo! You're in for a treat.

Should be a cracking day. Boro got moved to TV on the Sunday at 12 so gonna find a pub near the stadium to watch us until the Hurling starts at 3.30.
Seems a strange place to get around Dublin. We're staying in an apartment in Irishtown? It says via public transport it takes 38 mins to get to Croke park and 42 mins walking. Might just get a taxi if it's easier.

You're a bit of a trek from Croker alright but really you just wanna get there early enough to soak up the atmosphere. I really don't know how lucky you'll be finding the Boro game anywhere - will it be on Sky? If it's not clashing with anything else it should be on, but the pubs near the stadium will be packed full of Kilkenny and whoever else (not sure how the draw is working out but any of the potential opponents are very well supported so atmosphere should be great no matter what). When do you land in Dublin? The city is going to be buzzing, 2 of the football quarter finals are scheduled for the Saturday evening at the minute, normally I would think they'd change that as they don't like to have football and hurling big games on the same weekend but they're running out of weekends to run out the matches as well. You'd probably get a ticket handy enough to those games (they'll be done as a double header, one after the other) even though the counties are well supported, 1/4 finals rarely sell out. For getting to Croker I'd just say get to Dorset Street/Drumcondra Road and follow the crowd. The Big Tree is a good pub, Quinns is popular because it's right by the stadium (but it's a kip imo). Plenty of options along there anyway and as I said, the place will be buzzing with fans.

notpropaganda We land at about 7am that day so it's a case of getting to the apartment dropping our shit off and finding a pub with the Boro game on, yeah it's on Sky. Didn't realise it was such a big game tbh I thought we were just going to some regular match. Looking forward to it even more now. Only going because my brother wanted to go to Dublin for a few nights and this is how it's all fell with it being the cheapest time for us to go. He knows a few lads from there so asked if they could sort us tickets out.

Championship is always big at that time of year. Hordes and hordes of culchies lining the streets invading the big city. Talking 50-80,000 people depending on who is playing.

Bunch of hungover nordies from the night before as well. Potentially Donegal, Monaghan and Tyrone all there, along with Mayo who always have big numbers. Obviously Galway could turn us over though.

Depends whether he played/plays football or hurling to be honest but Galway have traditionally been a strong county in both codes. At the minute the footballers are quite a young team that seem to be developing pretty well (they're playing my team, Donegal, in a qualifier to get into the footballer quarter finals). They were one of the best teams in the country in the early 00's but went through a few seriously bad years there.
Hurlers have been knocking on the door for a few years now and have one of the best players in the country but they're a bit unlucky in that Kilkenny and Tipperary have been brilliant the last few years (well Kilkenny have been brilliant...forever it feels like).
Keep in mind they're amateur players as well. Basically if he played inter-county level (i.e playing for Galway) he'd be a very good player

I got his name he's called Niall Healy. My brother said his dad is the coach but when I checked it says the manager is Cunningham so dunno if he's got that wrong.

Think he's on the bench for Galway at the minute but I don't follow hurling that well so not 100% sure. As I mentioned, he plays with one of the best players in the country at the minute, Joe Canning:
He scored that this year against Kilkenny.
No idea if his father used to manage Galway or he could just be one of the coaches rather than the manager, as I say I wouldn't follow hurling as closely as football.
There's every chance you could be watching Galway against Kilkenny in the semi-final if the draw goes that way!

Also just for yourself to keep track of scoring, a goal = 3 points. So when you're at the match you could see a score like:
1-16 to 2-13
So one goal (3 points) and 16 = 19 points. 2 goals (6 points) and 13 = 19 points.
It's a minor thing but loads of people who've never seen the matches before tend to get a bit confused by it haha
