I think it's such a huge shame that talented drivers like Di Resta, and almost Perez, miss out because people like Maldonado or Chilton can bring money and not much talent to the table.
I'm hopeful for one of the lower teams springing a surprise this year. A Marussia or Caterham point would be fantastic and if any of them were to get it, you can't look past Kamui or Bianchi.
If Magnussen is like this in every race I look forward to watching him, very aggressive but tidy as well. I like him.

Thing is, like football, it's the case that money talks and the smaller teams are having to spend serious money just to try and keep pace with the big boys at the front.
Chilton is easily the worst driver on the grid though. Absolutely delighted with Kobayashi being back, even moreso with this years regulations allowing him to get the back out.
Magnussen is Finnish isn't he? Could be a bright one.
And Rich I had seen high praise for the Lotus' aero package when it was first announced but I just think they'll have too much catching up to do with very minimal budget.

Reckon Marussia will get a point tomorrow. I know Kamui is 14th but I'd be massively surprised if either Caterham makes it to the end. Marussia are definitely quicker on pace than Caterham, Lotus and maybe around the midfield but seem to have good reliability, if Chilton continues his consistency of finishing every race he'll have every chance tomorrow.
What do we reckon in terms of DNFs? Both Lotus cars and both Caterham's are a given for me. Be surprised if both Toro Rosso's and both Red Bull's make it too. I reckon around 7-8 DNFs just through reliability, not sure how fuel will work out, sure one or two will stick it in the gravel, they really are handfuls, if it rains I wouldn't be surprised to see whoever finishes getting a point.
Already rumours of moves next year. Spoke to a guy called Adam Cooper over the winter, been an F1 journalist for many years, seems to think it's all set for Alonso to take Button's drive next season allowing Vettel to go to Ferrari. Might have Kimi as a team mate for a year unless Red Bull try to take him, if they do Ferrari want Hulk alongside Vettel but they'll wait a year if Kimi wants to stick around for 2015.
If not Red Bull will go with promoting their own again, depending on who does best out of Vergne & Kyvat with Da Costa taking one of the Toro Rosso seats.
Also got told there's a very good chance Sauber will get Simona De Silvestro a drive at Marussia next year, they're expecting Bianchi to go to Force India to take Hulk's seat.

Danish I think, but I might be wrong. I'll have to see what he's like once we get to the more technical track. I love Australia but it's a nice entry for new drivers, it's quite simple, no big elevation changes or difficult turns like the first corner at Malaysia. If he can come up with really quick, aggressive driving there I'll be excited by him, it's what made me take a shining to Perez, that race in Malaysia.
In terms of DNFs, I can see a first lap crash taking a couple out tbh, I can see someone stalling and causing an accident. Vettel will retire with reliability issues, both Lotuses and one each of Sauber and Force India. I don't think the FI will be through reliability though, I think Hulk will crash. The Merc-supplied cars seem very good on the reliability front and until the Renaults and Ferraris catch up it should be a Mercedes/McLaren runaway for the first half of the season.

Also got a snippet on the Newman/Haas entry for next year. Seems like it's all set to go through, they've been around for a while in NASCAR so should be able to come up with a decent car from the off.
Cooper said McLaren tried to get Stoffel Vandoorne in the Marussia this year and will try again next year if they don't take De Silvestro but will try and place him in the new USA team if it comes off. Also said they'd likely take one of their drivers from IndyCar, no name but my guess would be James Hinchliffe. Decent talent, plenty of experience at 27 and he's driven for Newman/Haas before.
Think it's the first time tomorrow I hope it DOESN'T rain. Don't get me wrong, it would be absolute chaos and provide a great spectacle but I really want to see how they cope with fuel saving and who really has a good car. I'd be interested to see if Ricciardo began to drop back in the dry and if the Williams pair can come forward. Both said the car isn't good in the wet, I reckon they'd both fly through if it's dry the whole race.

Rosberg - Ricciardo - Magnussen
Very happy with that result. Mercedes looks miles ahead of anyone else which is a shame but happy with a Rosberg win and a Hamilton retirement. DR and KM had excellent drives, big fan of both of them. McLaren top of the constructors after week 1 is ace too.

Was a bit disappointed with that. Really don't want another season of one car dominating, hopefully Red Bull, McLaren, Williams, Ferrari will close up.
Had high hopes for the Hulk/Alonso/Button/Vergne/Kimi/Bottas battle but for some reason they just all stayed where they were and none of them could do anything about it.

People on Twitter are saying they've been forced to change the wings because of the Grosjean accident at Spa. But for me, if that Merc or Ferrari goes into the back of another car they'll actually pick it up and then Ham/Alonso etc will have the rear end of a car staring them in the face. Newey talked about the 'scoop effect' and it being just as dangerous. Wish they'd just fuck the rules and make it so the cars look nice. F1 is a relatively safe sport in recent years whatever the cars have looked like. Took less than 10 seconds of the new season to prove the new noses are just as much of a hazard as the old ones. As the Sky lot just said, if that's at a higher speed than Kamui ends up right underneath Massa's car.

Only saw the opening laps, but was gutted to see Hamilton's car fucked from the off. Rosberg started like a rocket. Encouraging race for McLaren, but feel for Ricciardo.

Didn't think I'd mind the noses that much but in a race when there's a close-run of the midfield (the Force India, Sauber and Williams) it looks silly, like a bunch of Narwols swimming around. Chasing a Ferrari powered anteater and I don't even know how to begin to describe the Lotus.
The noise is an odd one, some of the cars sound rough but some I love, the woooooosh when they're downshifting is stunning, I could listen to it all day.
Surprisingly, the comparitive pace to last year is quite close apparently, at first they were worried they'd be around four-five seconds a lap slower but they're now talking up that they'll soon be going quicker than last year. With a 1.6 engine. Madness.
Reckon it'll be a three way title race between Rosberg, Hamilton and Vettel. The Mclarens and Ferrari's will do well in the constructors just through reliability.
Oh and Max Chilton spoke in the third person in an interview after the race, further confirming what a waste of a driver he truly is.

Red Bull shouldn't have any hope of appealing... Mercedes and Ferrari did not like but, at least they took notice of the FIA... www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/112973Imagine if Mark Webber was still there and it happened to him, we'd be hearing him moaning about that for the next 294 years

Anyone think this might be year of the rookies/sophomores? With the way Magnussen began and with how and how impressive Kvyat was and then Bottas coming not far outside the podium places. With the rules having changed and the cars being very different, Sky kept mentioning in their commentary how the drivers were still driving the cars like the older ones. For the newer drivers they won't have driven anything different (I don't know how the young drivers' worked this year) and the sophomores will have only spent a year with the older spec cars. Just seems like they could spring a few surprises. 2009 was Vettel's first season at Red Bull with the new changes and he finished 2nd.
