Have a look at the Democrats in the US if you want to see where offering nothing except being not quite as bad as the other party gets you.
This thread of the best bits of the New Labour Blair/Brown years is pretty sobering too. Amazing quite how far they had to bend to get Murdoch on side.

And this is partly my worry/despair - in order to get elected Starmer will have to try and appeal to the 'centre' - but the centre has been dragged so far to the right that it will end up doing things that even Cameron would find too extreme. All you need to do is look at the current polling figures.

But what’s Starmer done or proposed that’s anywhere near “center right”? That’s just nonsense

In order for him to get elected, that's where I feel he's going to have to go.

Hasn’t he apparently reversed Labour’s policy on stopping and reversing NHS privatisation? That’s right, if not centre.
He’s not going to get elected. He’s weak and doesnt even look like he could inspire someone to vote for him. Corbyn might’ve been a poor leader and unelectable but he inspired a hell of a lot of people to take an interest.

But what’s Starmer done or proposed that’s anywhere near “center right”? That’s just nonsense Center right is a push but as mentioned, supporting the Tories on the 10 year sentence for defacing war memorials proposal (taking advantage of a media circus to score political points, I get it, fine), reneging on 2019 manifesto commitments to a Green New Deal and climate change targets as a whole (utterly purposeless), sacking RLB but not Rachel Reeves (point scoring again but a double standard for centre and left leaning cabinet members)... In terms of what he's actually proposed himself, I've really not seen much at all but he's been quiet on issues you'd expect a self-described socialist to be up in arms about during a climate like this, he sided with landlords on the rent freeze issue, hasn't pushed for anything like a temporary UBI or increased benefit provisions as far as I know either

Starmer describing the Black Lives Matter movement as a "moment" is absolutely absurd. Cosying up to the right wing is not a good look. He's not even looking like a centrist at this point, never mind left wing.

I reckon if we put Keir Starmer in a glass of water he’d just fizzle away like an aspirin or something.

Yeah, this Starmer experiment isn’t working for me at all.
We work with a company called Kier Siemens in work and I called them Kier Starmers on a call today, to everyone’s amusement 🙈
And that ends my political input for another while.

Latest poll for the May 2021 Scottish elections sees Labour win 0 constituencies - picking up a few list seats. Same poll shows 55% support for independence. For context, when the 2014 vote was agreed the support for Yes was at 30%.

Interview about funding in British politics with Peter Geohegan. Every bit as grim as you’d expect.
