A vaccine isn’t a given so a holiday could be off the cards for years for you, or even the rest of your life if that’s the case. As soon as everything is relaxed I’m booking a holiday to Dubai, and then another to Mexico for early next year. I have a feeling prices will be sky high for any travel abroad for a while. Obviously if we're 2-3 years without a vaccine things might change but then again the world would be an incredibly different place if that's the case.

I've rearranged my flights from June to September. I expect to be able to go by then.

I missed out on Seville in April. And we have already booked Madrid and Valencia for 31st July.
I’m presuming the flights will go ahead, given the rush to get everything back, but I don’t think I want to go. Happy to see how it all plays out and lose my flight money for now I think? Maybe go somewhere in October if I’m feeling it’s a little safer/worth it.

Proper pining to be sat on a terrace in Madrid right about now. Needed to get away so we went to the Peak District yesterday again to a few new places we'd not been to. There's so many stunning places that are free to visit and offer outrageously good views is unreal. We went up a tower to get views over Buxton, climbed up some rocks that offered views for miles, and then climbed into (and on top of) a huge cave/cavern that had some chavs having a little rave inside.

There’s plenty of places around the world still high up on my bucket list but I’m alright with local holidays for a while if needs be. Some of the beaches here are insane, I was swimming up home on Sunday and it was incredible.
Weather is unreliable obviously but tbh when it’s sunny like it was on Sunday there are very few places I’d rather be

I've taken a gamble and used some of my Ryanair credit to book flights to Venice in August.
Chances are prices will sky rocket next week when the travel advice is expected to be amended and Im hoping by then they'll have removed the two week quarantine. If not, I can amend the flights through to December if needs be.

Finally took the decision not to go to Spain, I didn’t want to go, then I did, then the Barcelona news finally settled it. Only going to lose a couple of hundred pound on the Valencia flight. Can rearrange the Madrid one. Not bad all things considered, pretty lucky really. Going up to Aberdeen for a week instead. Sister got married up there last year and we’ve booked a cottage to go back. Anything I should be looking to do/see Olivier? Days out, walks etc.

If you have a car the best stuff is outside the city in the Shire. For walks you could go round Loch Muick or up Bennachie. Each take 2-3 hours and lovely scenery. Dunnottar Castle is worth a visit if you like taking photos. It was one of the default Windows 7 backgrounds. Can visit the Queen out at Balmoral when she's up soon. Lots of whisky distilleries that do tours. If you are a fan of Brewdog their brewery is just outside Aberdeen and pretty sure they do tours. If it's nice weather and you fancy a beach go north 10 mins to Balmedie instead of Aberdeen beach itself. Within the city 'Old Aberdeen' and Seaton park are decent for a walkabout. Can go from the Kings College old town part through the park and along the river Don to the beach. See Otters and Seals and shit.

That’s brilliant thanks. I had Dunnottar Castle as my screen saver for ages in work, had no idea where it was haha I’ll definitely go there.

Was it just the Barcelona news that put you off? Or the whole journey being impacted?
We're off to Venice in three weeks and I'm most worried about two hours on a plane with the mask on. We're only away for three days so if worst case scenario I do come down with it from close proximity on the plane, it won't hit me until I'm back in the UK at least.

I was a bit apprehensive about the whole thing, and the Barcelona news was the big thing to allow us to make the decision. I wasn’t looking forward to the whole process, travelling, mask etc but I was confident from what I’d read Spain was safe and I’d enjoy the sun, eating out and all that. And then the Barcelona news just reinforced that there’s not a lot we can control, other than not going. With Aberdeen booked, it just made sense in the end that it wasn’t worth it for us.
Best time to go to Venice though I’d say, it’s crazy busy in the day with the cruises, so you should have the place to yourself!

Seems sensible tbh, especially if you'd be out there for more than a few days. By and large Spain have handled it well (I've had a good laugh at the OUTRAGE from Brits having to queue to book a space on the beach each day) but it's because they've come down hard on any outbreaks so there is the risk of it closing off areas. We were initially going to use our voucher to re-book our week AI in Menorca later in the year but across the Balearics now it's face masks in all situations other than eating or at the beach. And given AI is likely to be hugely affected by distancing and cleaning requirements, didn't seem worth it. Short city breaks if we do go away but I'll see how this goes first. Venice still looks dead which I'm looking forward to though.

Advising against all but essential travel to mainland Spain, so you can still travel to the Balearics/Canaries, but you would still have to complete the 2 week quarantine on return.

Back from Venice - wow. What an utterly stunning place. Could take a million and one different pictures. Weather was a challenge but the trade off was bright blue skies and stunning sunsets. Covid meant face masks nearly everywhere you went which was a challenge in the heat, but I felt comfortable that it was being enforced alongside temperature checks and distancing.
The food, oh my god the food. So good, and nearly everywhere catered for gluten free too which was a life saver.
Also a laugh seeing some dickhead refuse to wear his mask properly for the entire flight and then get taken off and handcuffed when we landed.
