If you have a car the best stuff is outside the city in the Shire. For walks you could go round Loch Muick or up Bennachie. Each take 2-3 hours and lovely scenery. Dunnottar Castle is worth a visit if you like taking photos. It was one of the default Windows 7 backgrounds. Can visit the Queen out at Balmoral when she's up soon. Lots of whisky distilleries that do tours. If you are a fan of Brewdog their brewery is just outside Aberdeen and pretty sure they do tours. If it's nice weather and you fancy a beach go north 10 mins to Balmedie instead of Aberdeen beach itself. Within the city 'Old Aberdeen' and Seaton park are decent for a walkabout. Can go from the Kings College old town part through the park and along the river Don to the beach. See Otters and Seals and shit. Been meaning to thank you for this. Loch Muick and Dunnottar Castle were spectacular walks. We had brilliant weather all week too. Low 20’s mostly sunny. Great trip in all. Visit Scotland everyone!

They all stay on one street anyway, just avoid the neon lights.

Maybe I just didn't look very hard but it's not even that cheap. Fucked off that idea for a week in Crete

Tends to be the general costs that are cheap in Benidorm, food and drink etc.
Plus you'll probably find they've all raised prices knowing it's where so many people will want to flock to first thing.
Crete you'll still be surrounded by Brits it'll just be elderly ones.

Unless you're staying in Malia then Crete should be alright for avoiding Brits

Did another Peak District trip in lieu of foreign travel - I never want to move walk or climb again, I'm broken. We hiked up Kinder Scout in wind/rain, to the point we were above the clouds. Got lost searching for a plane wreck off snake pass, and then climbed up Bamber Edge which, despite the shit weather, offered some incredible views. Such a nice part of the country, amazing roads to drive too.

Malaga is fucking beautiful - massively underappreciated given how easy it is to visit too.

I didn’t enjoy it. I went in 2014 and to be fair I was only there for a day before continuing to Marbella but I wasn’t too high on it
La Rosaleda is great though. Tiny but the end with the ultras is amazing, just constantly moving. It felt like they were completely separate from the rest of the ground

I think it's been fully revamped since then - the entire port/seafront area has been redone.
All the usual things I love about Spain (unreal food, top service at local places), it was the perfect mix of old town to wander in plus with a stunning beach tagged on.

Anybody with views on Seville? Think it'll likely be my next trip away as it's likely to be milder in September compared to the North.

Lovely place but basically has a four month summer so it’s gonna be really hot still in September. Last time I was there it was in June, time before that it was September and I’d say the September trip was the hotter. If you want mild then you’re better off up north, it’s a good 5-6 degrees cooler in Barcelona year round than it is in Seville
The city itself is really nice. The Plaza de España and the Parque María Luisa is lovely. Loads of shade and a really good panorama there as well

I had heard about the Seville summer - late September should be bearable I hope.

You thinking more a city break or just a beach holiday? My girlfriend brought me to San Juan outside Alicante last September and I loved it, we got perfect weather - it was hot and sunny but not unbearable. Although apparently it rained just up the coast in Benidorm for 4 of the days we were in San Juan.
It's definitely just a beach location though, spent every day at the beach and just took a break for food (which was unreal). But a lovely beach and my gf says it's where the Spaniards go for their holiday so it's not like Benidorm at all. There is a strip a street or two away from the beach which was buzzing at night but we barely went there tbh. Alicante is about 30 minutes away by tram as well if you want to visit the city, we didn't go there last year but we're going back to the same area this summer and I'm planning on a day in Alicante.
Edit: for what it's worth when I asked my gf about Seville she made that Spanish "oof" face and went "que calor" but apparently it's beautiful
