Why I thought you were through? Or is it to avoid someone in the knockouts?

Why I thought you were through? Or is it to avoid someone in the knockouts? The difference in winning/losing that game is the knockouts. Had we lost the path would be: 1/4 final v NZ 1/2 final v winner of South Africa/Wales Now it's 1/4 final v Argentina 1/2 final v Australia The likelihood of beating the All Blacks was slim, even with a fully fit team. Now it looks like we'll be without 4 of our best players next weekend, so yeah, that was huge. Unbelievable squad performance, they're always talking about everyone knowing their roles, always being ready to slot in if called upon but that was unreal. It wasn't heroic in terms of clinging on and goal-line stands and all that, it was just completely dominating a French team that must have thought they had it won when Sexton and O'Connell went off. It was just fantastic, 100% deserved winners. Heartbreaking for O'Connell, more than likely his final ever appearance in an Ireland shirt, terrible for it to end that way. You could tell as soon as the ruck happened he was in trouble. For the others, I think Sexton could be ok for next week, the fact he walked off I think that is the coaching team saying "we're not risking it, off you come". O'Mahony could be in trouble as well and I think SOB will be lucky if his ban is only a week. Starting team next weekend in a worst case scenario: Healy - Best - Ross Ryan - Toner Henry - Heaslip - Henderson Murray - Madigan Henshaw - Fitzgerald (Earls went off injured, if he's fit he starts) Kearney - Kearney - Bowe Still a very strong team and I'd hope it's enough for Argentina but they're well rested, ready and waiting for us. Big ask

I think the biggest one is Sexton being fit, Madigan is good but he's just not Sexton and it is such an important position. Henderson arguably played better than O'Connell today, he was absolutely immense. O'Mahoney would be a big miss as well but Henry was good.

O'Connell done What a legend of the game, himself, O'Driscoll and O'Gara (among others) epitomised the change in ethos in Irish rugby over the past 15 years. So sad to see his Ireland career end in that way, sport is fucking cruel at times O'Mahony also ruled out for the tournament which is a big loss, so Ruddock and Mike McCarthy have been called up as their replacements. Sounds like they're more optimistic about Sexton so hopefully he'll be ok for Sunday, and they haven't called up a replacement for Payne yet which is a bit strange. Also haven't heard anything more on Earls and his injury so I'm assuming no news is good news O'Brien got cited for the punch as expected, so we'll see now what kind of ban they hand out. Everyone's hoping it's only a one week ban but I've a feeling it won't be. Probably team for Argentina: Healy - Best - Ross Ryan - Toner Henry - Heaslip - Henderson Murray - Sexton/Madigan Henshaw - Earls/Fitzgerald Kearney - Kearney - Bowe

You could also see Henderson in the 2nd row and Ruddock starting straight away

Twitter abuzz that O'Brien's ban is two weeks, reduced to one for good disciplinary record

Was at the Newstalk Off the Ball Roadshow there last night in the 3 Arena. Dunno if you listen to it, notpropaganda. Not a bad line up. O'Driscoll, Wood, Ferris, Competepomi, Eddie O'Sullivan, Tim Horan...
