To take hostages though they must have some sort of ransom or message to get accross. If it was just a sheer terrorism act they would of blew the place up. Praying for a happy ending The Charlie Hebdo hostage incident at the Jewish supermarket, iirc he rang up local news and demanded an interview live on air with Hollande, shit like that. I don't think it's necessarily about a ransom moreso just the sheer fear they can instill from it. I think a big bit of it is keeping it as front page news for as long as possible (although surprised noone has claimed ownership) Looks like some people are coming out now |

Makes you think, in a movie or the like taking a concert venue would be a gang of 10-15 bad guys, reality is, this was just two guys within the Badaclan
If they have pulled this off with minimal casualties the police have done well here

Hate to say it the outlook is bleak for the hostages because if they're horrible enough to do this in the first place I doubt they're gonna let them all go alive. Apparently the third deadliest terrorist attack after 11-M and Oslo. It seems certain to rise past Oslo's body count with those unnaccounted for inside the Bataclan. This seems so much more than previous attacks, the coordination is at 9/11 levels, and yet has come so quickly after the previous Paris attacks that it seems as though the aim is to increase the frequency and deadliness of attacks. The next worry is revenge attacks, both France and the UK are in the sort of racial and religious divide that can easily cause Kyrstallnacht-esque response, which is playing right into the terrorists. |

The idea of revenge attacks terrifies me. Also the increase in tension leading to further alienation of French Muslims, possibly leading to more radicalisation. This brand of terrorism is self-sufficient, makes it that much scarier imo.

Sky News are told those explosions heard a while ago were the terrorists inside using explosives on the hostages, so the first thing they do is replay the fucking footage.
