Stupid from Gatlin. Fair play Talbot, two rounds two PB's. Gemili should go sub 20 but won't medal. Lemaitre finished fast, may sneak one. Probably go Bolt De Grasse Lemaitre, Gemili 5th. Bolt 19.4 Merrit 4th. Got the medal places right at least. Gutted for Gemili, one of the nicest blokes in the team. Time was shit but they all were, same with the 100, should have been more spaced out between the two events. are we keeping the same 4x100m team for the Final? because they're pretty shit Sadly, yes; www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/othersports/athletics/11832911/Britain-4x100m-men-turn-on-each-other-after-relay-shambles.htmlEllington and Kilty are utter fucking cunts who think they're far better than they actually are. When Ellington somehow qualified for the mens 100 here I tweeted that it was a waste of a space and, having searched out his own name, he favourited my tweet. When he went out predictably in the first round (wasn't his fault of course, he slipped, starter was rubbish, never his own inability) and I commented that it was a waste of a pick, surprise surprise he didn't search his name to find that one.

Really curious how people feel about doping at these Olympics and is there no cynical part of you that doesn't really believe some of the things we've seen?
I want to believe Bolt is clean, he's been running insane times his entire life which gives me comfort. But then you read that of the 30 fastest times over 100m, 21 are by runners that have tested positive for PED's and the other 9 are Bolt. Isn't there a question there?
Then you have Farah's association with coaches arrested for doping and the South African smashing a WR that was achieved during a period rife with doping. But hardly anyone asks the question?
Part of me finds Britains insane dominance in cycling suspect as well but I dunno how often these guys are tested.

With cycling I think British cycling massively outspends anyone else which goes some way to explaining things Their federation got £32m in funding over the last four years. The next best funded was Austtalia with something like £18m. So it's definitely not a level playing field in that sense.

Then you have Farah's association with coaches arrested for doping and the South African smashing a WR that was achieved during a period rife with doping. But hardly anyone asks the question? Part of me finds Britains insane dominance in cycling suspect as well but I dunno how often these guys are tested. They're all doping. Just some are doing it illegally. Athletes are taking caffeine tablets/pills before races. Legal. Protein shakes. Legal. They're forms of 'doping' as such, they're performance enhancing substances. It's just that the majority of those competing are operating within the rules. Every medal winner is tested during the event. There's testing done at every major level competition. With regards to cycling specifically it's probably currently the hardest sport to dope in given how much focus there's been in recent years on the matter. I find it easier to believe Bolt is clean having watched how Michael Johnson analysed why he's so good, that stride pattern is monstrous and he'll have been tested more than most. I do know that people have raised eyebrows at the Jamaican drug testing system being a bit lax but you've got to presume innocent until proven guilty otherwise what's the point in watching it? And that stat is a bit loaded to look negative against Bolt, those other runners have tested positive at some point, not necessarily when setting that time. Asafa Powell for example set many of those quick times nearly 10 years before he failed a drug test for something that would have showed up at the time. Do we just discredit all of those times because later on in his career he failed a drugs test for using a fat burner? Farah's judgement is definitely questionable but again, have to assume he's innocent and has so far passed every drugs test thrown his way. Back to cycling quickly and as below, we invest far more than most and it's been a progression from way back in Sydney where we've invested in marginal gains and technological advancements with the Olympics being the key focus as that secures the four years of funding needed. Other countries focus on peaking once a year for each major championship, we seem to focus on peaking once every four years at an absolute peak. Sports which we can get a competitive advantage in with technology (cycling, rowing, sailing) are the sports we consistently seem to do well in. In case you're interested in what the British athletes go through in terms of drugs testing, Tom Fordyce for the BBC lived under the whereabouts drug taking system for a month and wrote about it here; www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/tomfordyce/2011/07/life_on_the_uk_anti-doping.html

If Bolt ever tests positive athletics is finished. No punter will ever believe what they see again.
Seeing as it's the women's 800m tonight do any of you think Caster Semenya shouldn't be competing? If she breaks what is probably the dodgiest WR still on the books I think it could end her career, ironically.
Edit: My bad. It's on Sunday actually.

Definite question marks over Farah, linked with two dodgy doctors, missed tests, abrasive about doping question in a manner like Armstrong. The only thing is he's not beating world records to win everytime or anything, he's a very good race tactician.
People were looking for Bolt to break world records but I think that would have been more suspicious given his age and the sheer amount of years that he's been running. Makes sense that his career would reach a peak mid-way through, drop off slightly but his peak being still good enough to win. Bit like how Federer is still a great tennis player and if he wasn't in such a strong era might have continued to win majors past his peak.
There's definitely going to be some failed tests in the next while from these Games that make you think 'can't believe I believed that'. Really hoping Niekerk isn't one of them because that was an insane run.
As for Semanya, let her run in peace I think. It's more the way that she looks that causes an issue. A lot of the best athletes have strange anomalies in their make-ups that give them a natural advantage. I thought it was kinda sad that it felt to me that she was holding back after her first Gold because she didn't want to attract attention to herself. It's not really fair either that she should work as hard as any other athletes for the 800m as far as we know, and if she wins then it's not 'talent' like the others but because she had an unfair advantage.

I don't have a problem with Semenya at all. It's not as if she's a man who identifies as a woman, she's a woman who others try to identify as a man.

lol that Aaron Cook who had a massive bitch when he didn't make London 2012 and got a relative amount of press coverage over it and GB Taekwondo's decision to send Muhammed, which resulted in people sending hatemail and stuff got thrashed in Round 1, now competing for Moldova What a surprise, the Taekwondo GB federation (or whatever they call themselves) know more about the sport than the average sports fan or sports journalist.

I have a problem with Semenya, apparently the top 3 fastest athletes this year in the 800m have all tested for abnormal testosterone levels as part of a medical condition similar to each other and similar to Semenya's. Unfair advantage but then I suppose if it's natural, it's obviously not managed, what can you do?
