Always thought Robert Huth was a hell of a lot better than he got given credit for. He's not Maldini but unfairly thrown in with 'big, slow, limited bruiser' because he played for Stoke. I'd put him up there as one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League outside the top 7 teams in the last 10 years. I'm always of the opposite opinion about Huth, could never understood how he got a decent amount of German caps. Never rated him plus he's a big nasty cunt. Christain Ziege was one of the worst left backs i've ever seen also, couldn't defend, makes Jose Enrique look like Baresi

Ziege was a wing back for us when we played with 3 cb's under glenn and he was our best player back then

Yes and no. Most knowledgeable football fans realise that at his peak he was amongst the very best in the world. Very few players have been better than him in his position over the last decade. However there will always be those who insist otherwise and place him behind Scholes and Gerrard for example despite him achieving a lot more on a personal level. Maybe and this is just a wild guess, but maybe people would put Lampard 3rd in a list of him, Gerrard and Scholes, because he is/was the 3rd best footballer out of the 3.

Mike no-one's discrediting Lampard, I think the point is that Scholes and Gerrard are both absolute legends of the Premier League, no doubt Lampard is as well but one of the three has to come third in people's opinions. If I had to list them, I'd put Scholes first, then Gerrard and Lampard in that order but they are incredibly hard to split. Liverpool fans might argue Gerrard as number one but for me, Scholes was an absolute one of a kind player, speaks volumes that players from all over Europe name him as their hardest opponent/favourite player.
In terms of answering the thread's question, Chris Cohen, that is all.

The most skillfull left back the world has ever seen Steed Malbranque & Wilson Palacios were both capable of being brilliant players. I also remember Gilberto Silva being constantly solid, but I don't seem to hear him lauded as much as a lot of players from a decade ago or so. Not to add fire to an already dull argument (all three are/were class, class players, what they've won and how they've stood out considering who they've played with is a testament to that) but I'd have Gerrard at his peak as possibly the best player the Premier League's ever seen

Well shit the bed, MikeCFC disagrees that a Chelsea player isn't the best in history. Who said anything about him being the best player in history? I'm just saying he isn't inferior to Gerrard and Scholes. And I would wager that most people would disagree with you. It is obviously a close call though, as all have been fantastic players.
