Where the fucking hell is "teach men not to rape" from? That's just fucking insulting. It's a new buzz phrase for internet feminists etc. I know the point about it being committed by people you know, and maybe I didn't give the best example with walking up to somebody in an attack. Even in partner rape situations though, the stories I've read through the victim in it has always made it clear they aren't consenting. And I honestly don't think (unless they have a mental disorder) the attack could confuse that, and not think they're doing something wrong. They fully know what they're doing is wrong, which is where my problem with the phrasing comes from. It makes out that rape is a crime of not understanding what is acceptable and what isn't. @ SoS I agree with the point you're making about teaching what consent is. However in so many arguments 'victim blaming' and 'teach men not to rape' are made as two entirely separate points. I'm fully with everybody on thinking victim blaming is outrageous and wrong. Also be careful with stuff like that, there's so many reports out now that people tend to use the one which best supports their point, rather than one which is most accurate. Notice how every example given there was 'If he' implying that women never rape, or that men only rape women, etc.

Why is it not called "teach morons not to rape" then instead of lumping the entire gender in with them.

Why is it not called "teach morons not to rape" then instead of lumping the entire gender in with them. Because it's a response to people saying "tell women to not wear slutty clothes/walk alone at night/go to bad areas/get drunk."

Unfortunately a lot of people, media outlets, police, government officials more often than not will put some sort of blame on the victim. 'They were drunk/wearing slutty clothing etc.' Which is an entirely bullshit thing to do.

Enough people so as to require a movement against it.

"Teach the media/general public that rape is never the womans fault" then
Anyone who has ever used the phrase "teach men not to rape" is being a cunt as far as I'm concerned

Far too many people.
Serena Williams said this about that case in Steubenville:
"I'm not blaming the girl, but if you're a 16-year-old and you're drunk like that, your parents should teach you -- don't take drinks from other people. She's 16, why was she that drunk where she doesn't remember? It could have been much worse. She's lucky. [SHE] shouldn't have put herself in that position."
And this is a guy in charge of a college in Boston:
"If women don't want to get raped they shouldn't take The T."
Plus, that's exactly how defendants in rape charges work. They attack the character of the victim, ask what she was wearing, whether she was alone, whether she drank too much. And I say she because most of the time, it's a woman.

Although I do think the 'If you laugh at a rape joke, watch porn, buy dirty mags etc. then you're a rape supporter' argument is bullshit and then some.

"Teach Americans not to be so fucking stupid" is another alternative

Kanye can make good points but he does spout a LOT of shit and over complicates a lot of the stuff he says. That Radio 1 interview was just rant rant rant.

I'd argue telling rape jokes is a really shitty thing to do. Don't think it makes you a rape supporter or anything like that but, considering how traumatic it can be for victims and how unlikely it is for victims to tell everyone they know about it, it is way too easy to remind someone about the worst experience of their life without even realising it. I'm willing to forgo telling some jokes to ensure I don't do that.

I think if you're laugh about paedophile jokes, or miscarriage jokes, then you're gonna laugh about rape jokes. I think those three are in their own league of the 'worst' jokes. Much more severe than murder. Star of Spurs I don't know the context of that Serena quote but it sounds like she just means girls that young shouldn't get paralytic because bad stuff could happen to them. Not saying that it's their fault, moreso just saying be careful because there are bad people out there.

It depends, if it's a straight forward 'You got raped, that's funny' then it's a shitty thing to do. But if you, for whatever reason, told a rape joke about two inanimate objects, then it's not really offencive. It's all about context with those sort of things.

Depends.
I laughed at Alan Pardew saying someone raped someone with a tackle when I heard it.
But when you think there's a traumatised rape victim sitting at home watching that and hearing him throw the word out so loosely then it's a pretty shitty thing to do.
