Modern soldiers aren't heroes just for being soldiers, you get the odd example of those who go above and beyond the cal of service but aye, don't you dare say that near the full time mummy brigade Whilst there's a percentage of modern day soldiers who join the army 'cause they want to 'shoot a towel head' and have uninformed or incorrect opinions on the middle east and people who are Muslim you can't really say that in the media. If anyone did it's professional suicide, whilst we've changed as a nation we're still seemingly biasedly patriotic as a whole, and that includes the people who're part of the military. They are put on a pedestal though, be that rightly or wrongly. I wouldn't want to do their job though so more power for them for saving us the risk of being enlisted. Frankly they should be given footballers wages I think.

They should feel lucky they get the wage they have and stop complaining since they chose to be in the army. The army didn't chose them.
That's probably what I should have said in the first place instead of rambling.

Agree on the soldiers stuff. Mongs annoy me to when the pull the 'SOLIDERS SHOULD GET PAID A FOOTBALLERS WAGE IT'S NOT FAIR'. When private owners pay the wage of a footballer, and the wage of a soldier comes from the tax payer. Which is somewhat ironic, because those darn evil footballers are actually contributing more to a soldiers wage than the people moaning. Want soldiers to get paid more? Start a campaign to raise taxes then, see how many supporters you get.

Soldiers don't even deserve to get paid more anyway.

Soldiers don't even deserve to get paid more anyway. As the son of an ex-serviceman with 20+ years experience in the Army which included tours of duty in Rwanda and Bosnia (ya know, places where actual racial and religious genocide was occurring), I'd love to hear your rationale.

Can't speak for Exonerator but I definitely agree with his point. For me what soldiers get paid it's perfectly reasonable. If you take all patriotism out of the equation it's simply supply and demand. There are plenty of people in this country willing/able to become soldiers for 16k a year. To bring it back to the soldiers v footballers 'debate' there are very, very few people that can put 40, 000 bums on seats every other week.

I wouldn't know how much they get paid but I'm sure its enough. I definitely agree on the 'not being heroes' thing though. I don't see whats heroic about it, my grandad and probably some of your grandads who ended up fighting the nazis because they were enlisted and had no choice and our country actually faced a very real threat, I might consider heroes. It's not heroic joining up and being one of the unlucky ones who ends up being sent to iraq or whatever. Guy I went to school with joined up a couple of years back and just got his first posting; he's going to california for three years. What a fucking hero.

I think it's quite a heroic act to be willing to be in somewhere like Pakistan or Libya and be away from your family months at a time.
However, a lot of people joint he army for the sake of the army or because they have no job prospects, not for a sense of pride and protecting the country.
If you raise the salary you also get a load more people applying with quite frankly not even to do right now.
People who rise up the ranks end up on a decent salary anyway.

I think FPS games like COD are shite. There's too many of them and they're all too samey. Give me an obscure little sidescroller or something any day.
