Love how much it meant to Ronaldo. Sick of Messi's smug look when he wins it.

Fully deserved for Ronaldo, he was the only choice with Messi's injuries. Don't think Ribery was that great tbh, they just had to try and pick someone from that Bayern side even though it's more of a fantastic unit without any stand out players.

If anyone's interested, this is the full breakdown of the votes: www.fifa.com/mm/document/ballond'or/playeroftheyear(men)/02/26/02/68/fboaward_menplayer2013_neutral.pdf Neither Ronaldo nor Messi voting for each other is a bit petty lol

I Think id probably be the same in their situation to be fair. Imagine if it's a really fucking close year and there's one vote in it and you lose to the guy you voted for. You'd never forgive yourself.

Mario Yepes' and Pekerman went for Falcao Drogba went for Yaya Toure Lahm, Pizarro and Deschamps went for Ribery Buffon and Prandelli went for Pirlo van Persie went for Robben Lugano went for Suarez and Cavani as his first two picks Williams and Coleman went for Bale Sabella went for Messi Bento went for Ronaldo Nawalka went for Lewandowski Del Bosque went for Xavi and Iniesta as his first two picks Hamren went for Ibrahimovic Fatih Terim went for Ozil
Shouldn't there be some sort of rule that means people can't pick fellow team mates or countrymen, or players that coaches manage at the very least?
Can't help but feel it takes a little away from the prestige when you have players from your own country or your own national team manager voting for you.

Good on Ronaldo but what a lazy, uninspired World XI that was. We did a much better job.

It's much harder to take it seriously whenever you see the votes publicised and it also leads me to think that they know that their mates are going to see who they are going to pick so they vote accordingly. Not a fan of the merging of Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the Year, FIFA World Player of the Year was always more of a popularity and reputation contest, FIFPro teams attest to that. Ballon d'Or was much better when you had a series of respected journalists and not players and coaches involved.

Well summed up here. sportsillustrated.cnn.com/soccer/news/20140113/cristiano-ronaldo-ballon-dor-real-madrid-portugal/Cameroon coach picking Eto'o over Messi in 2012, Thiago Silva not voting for Neymar because he thought he wasn't allowed to, then best of all, a number of votes for Xavi being wrote down as Xabi instead in 2010, so Alonso got the vote. Then Ribery falling out with Sakho for not voting for him, Ronaldo with Marcelo for not voting for him in Ballon d'Or, should be left to journalists.
