www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25749268Everyone was saying how the team of the year was bullshit, I think this UEFA one is more accurate. Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich); Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Thiago Silva (Paris St-Germain), Philipp Lahm (Bayern Munich), David Alaba (Bayern Munich); Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich), Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund) Mesut Ozil (Arsenal); Gareth Bale (Real Madrid), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Paris St-Germain) Neur Lahm - Silva - Ramos - Alaba Ribery - Ozil - Reus Ronaldo - Ibrahimovic - Bale Obviously lacking any true central midfielders, and that team would get destroyed in practice but a lot more Bayern players in there compared to the FIFA one.

Slight lack of Messi however, even with the injuries he has to be there.

It's voted by fans so I'm presuming it was lots of Germans considering 6/11 players are either German or play in the German league, haha.

Schweinsteiger can't get in any team, really strange. Best midfielder of 2013 imo. Especially considering all the other Germans that are there too, don't understand it. Guy won Bundesliga player of the year too.

If they're going for a modern day 4-2-3-1 (Ribery, Ibra, Messi, Ronaldo) up top, they should have Schweinsteiger partnered by Fabregas or Modric. Both have been superb for a long time. Xavi and Iniesta are very undeserving.
Ozil, Reus and Bale don't really deserve to be there. Bale has the strongest argument for selection though. How doesn't Messi get picked loooool.

Xavi and Iniesta have suddenly became two of the most underrated players around by football hipsters. They still walked their league with 100 points and more goals scored than the last 2 years with Pep. When you bear in mind Pedro/Villa/Sanchez/Tello all got moved around a lot, Xavi/Iniesta/Fabregas/Messi are the only offensive regulars.
Casillas was voted 2nd best keeper in the world, what a joke lol. Played 3 league games in 2013.

Casillas was voted 2nd best keeper in the world, what a joke lol. Played 3 league games in 2013. Lost 7-0 on agg to Bayern, dominated by PSG and won through Messi coming on and changing the game. In the second round, AC Milan's midfield was all over them in the first leg. The only match where they stood out at all was the home leg against Milan. In La Liga and the Copa del Rey, they were dominated by Real Madrid in the games that they played in 2013. On Fifa's reserve teams whcih they released, Javi Martinez wasn't on any of the lists and Schweinsteiger was on the 3rd team despite being one of the best double pivots that I've seen in the Champions League for a while. If you ask both of Xavi and Iniesta, what has been your worst year of the last five, they both say this year. Fabregas has been better than Iniesta for me this season too. @eclipse, Ozil.

Can't say I watch any Bundesliga football to comment on it, I was just referring to Gobble Gobble's enquiry as to Messi's whereabouts in the eleven.

I agree except he's also probably the one that didn't get in because Germans stuffed the ballot. But regardless the rest of the German/German-based players are incredibly justified.

If Messi had spent 3 months injured last season I really don't see how Barca would have walked their league. It's only because Pedro, Cesc and to an extent Alexis have stepped up this year that they're top. When the CL final consisted of two German teams, I don't see a problem with them being there. German football was brilliant last year and one of their teams made supposedly one of the best ever teams look second tier.

Well summed up here. sportsillustrated.cnn.com/soccer/news/20140113/cristiano-ronaldo-ballon-dor-real-madrid-portugal/Cameroon coach picking Eto'o over Messi in 2012, Thiago Silva not voting for Neymar because he thought he wasn't allowed to, then best of all, a number of votes for Xavi being wrote down as Xabi instead in 2010, so Alonso got the vote. Then Ribery falling out with Sakho for not voting for him, Ronaldo with Marcelo for not voting for him in Ballon d'Or, should be left to journalists. At least we don't have the Mourinho? controversy of people changing his votes.
