he has been injured for a few weeks tbf but before that is a mystery
oh i don't believe not playing him was an evil plan, it just wouldn't surprise me if there was massive conflict between the board & andre and lamela just got caught in the middle (which is what's been assumed). and i'm not wanting that game to become folklore lol it's just a sign of what he's capable of, and yet for some reason when his confidence was sky high we dropped him instantly
i know lennon tracks back a lot more than lamela does which helps out when walker comes forward but if we wanted a player who was going to be defensive we shouldn't have spent £30m on him in the first place

We shouldnt have spent £30m on anyone, let alone a midfielder, let alone a right midfielder. Was clearly a signing to appease fans upset at Bale's imminent exit, who after both managers have looked at him for what over half a season most days have both come to the conclusion he probably isn't that great a player. Before the emergence of Townsend we still didn't need another out and out wide man, maybe a squaddie we'd have got for a few mill, not a £30m one though never again please Daniel.
Hopefully he can prove me wrong in time but lets be honest the boy is seemingly no closer to the Tottenham first team now than when he was a Roma player. A fallback has been 'oh he can do it on the left' but he hasn't really played left side before has he @lazzaratron ? At least while he hasn't settled we haven't been short on the right but the whole deal screams 'panic buy' to me. It's not down to Sherwood or AVB why he isn't/hasn't been playing its down to the boy end of the day, unless of course the unlikely coincidential scenario that AVB and Tim hate Argentinians is of course proved correct.

Surely there's a reason for him not playing though? I.e. that he's not playing well enough in training? I've heard of players who just don't train well, but turn it on when in actual competition, but the fact that Lamela just isn't ever used at this point must suggest that the people who see him week in week out training don't think he's good enough. People always just seem to assume an ulterior motive to a manager not playing someone, when they and their team are the ones who actually have a ton more information to work off rather than 'that one barely competitive match he played where he showed he was top class' This is what I'm saying, Villas-Boas and Sherwood have been in pro football most of their lives, they aren't idiots and I'd trust their judgement over mine, yours or even the most hardened football fans opinion, the fan can only play on assumptions based on hearsay, lies and their own ideas of what goes on behind closed doors, we all get sucked into it every now and then but professional clubs, better yet Premier League clubs don't hire the first idiot on the street do they? Some people might think so, and some people might think AVB, Sherwood or any other Johnny Manager is an idiot but these are people who've been involved directly in the game 20+ years so they might be idiots but they're idiots with decades of nous and know how, compared to Johnny Fan who are idiots who watch these footballers for not even two hours a week from afar.

At no point in Lamela's career, going all of the way back to when he was a teenager at River Plate and then continuing through his time at Roma has he never NOT looked a complete cut above. Now, I trust AVB and Sherwood to know what they need in their team more than I do but it is difficult for me as a fan to see how one of the world's most creative midfielders wouldn't help a team as starved for goals as Spurs.
It really makes no sense.

AVB didn't want him and benched him largely out of spite cos he had these moments where he thought he was Mourinho
Sherwood really strikes me as the sort who would just rather play a GOOD OLD FASHUND ENGLISH LAD in his GOOD OLD FASHUND ENGLISH 442

Rooney's going to sign a contract for five years worth 300k a week.
Taking them to the cleaners. Again.

I still think Rooney's the best player in the league. Not going to deny that he's a quality player but it's somewhat ridiculous that one man can constantly prove he's bigger than possibly the biggest club in the world Plus £300k a week for a man who's 29 this year is a bit much

I've noticed this over the past few years with Rooney, I'm not sure if he is consistent enough to be a no.10 at United all of the time. He always takes ages to pick up after injuries and has always gotten one a year or so. Take for example since he's come back from his latest injury, has been mediocre in his return. We also have Mata, Januzaj and Kagawa that could play there. Meanwhile, if you play Rooney upfront, we've got Van Persie there which means he won't play there when the two of them play and also Welbeck/Hernandez.
Great player but would have been interested to see how we got on without him. I think that this is more of a statement than anything, if Rooney leaves in the summer and we're outside the top 4 then you start to wonder where the club is going. Plus very difficult to find someone as good as Rooney from that position too.

The club has no choice but to bend over backwards for Rooney right now imo

With the position we're in we need to keep hold of the few quality players we have. This is just a case of paying what's necessary to keep a player of Rooney's calibre in a side which will be without CL competition next season.
