An extension from the discussion in the PL/El threads and a question for both fans and neutrals, want genuine opinions
How many times have you seen Tottenham with the £200-300m squad play well this season?
Some people will moan about how this sounds snobbish rehreh but if you see your club spend hundreds of millions of £ only to REGRESS and accept it like a bitch then your wife will probably end up beating you about daily tbh.
My answer is once, Newcastle away.

Nonce for me. Obviously I don't specifically follow them but the games I have seen such as tonight's have all been pretty dire. I'm as confused as every Spurs fan when you look at the money spent and star names and where they are in the league, I'm sure it'll be Sherwood out quite soon.

Eriksen was their only good buy.

Played well against us but then again we were playing complete shite around then.
Mad how they're 5th, Benfica is just the latest time that a competent team has put a few past them.

Eriksen was their only good buy. i swear you said this about two months ago about soldado we've played well once this season, newcastle away. we started well against chelsea, norwich & united at home but that's it our successes over the next few years entirely depends on van gaal coming. if he does, then levy'll back away and we might have something on our hands. if he doesn't and we hire some other project we'll go the way of villa

you do have to give them time but first grade impressions aren't amazing
we don't seem to know what to do with paulinho
chiriches is awesome
eriksen is awesome and deserves better
lamela could be awesome and deserves better
soldado is just a weird one
chadli & capoue are hard to tell

Capoue is amazing and will be one of your best players if he actually gets a run of games.

He's a good player, but he hasn't been a good buy. Like what the fuck did you need Chadli for? Tottenham tried to overcompensate for Bale's departure

that's fair
because we needed a backup winger which is why he's played a fair bit when townsend/lennon have been injured and lamela has been outside the realms of reality
and of course we tried to overcompensate, he's one of the best players in the world and without cl we weren't going to get that again. this was the year to prove we could do something and we've amazingly cocked it up

I also like Capoue and Chiriches is a good player.
Paulinho is a good player but not sure if he suits the league or Spurs. Lamela has barely played enough to judge.
Soldado and Chadli are fairly shite
Eriksen is easily the best signing but that much was obvious from the summer that you'd gotten a good player for a good price.

The point about the overcompensating was that they spent too much money on players they shouldn't have. Of course they had to use some of it to build up the squad, and of course in the future some of their players could end up being worth their price, but I think the likes of Lamela and Paulinho were trap buys.
I'm surprised you got Eriksen for such a decent amount though, shit piece of business by Ajax, unless I'm missing some facts.
I'm beating a dead horse, anyway

The only one of our signings to have actually had a consistent run in the team is Soldado. Everyone else has been injured or unused, pretty much throughout.
Chadli's been in and out, picked up a few injuries too. Lamela wasn't used by AVB, has 300 minutes of league football and has vanished into the Bermuda Triangle. Chiriches has been good, but inevitably got injured, just as we ran out of cbs. Capoue started off well, god injured, came back playing cb and is now injured again. Paulinho's been poor in comparison to his ability, but we don't have a formation for him, a role. I don't think he knows either. Eriksen's been our best buy, but yet again, injured for a good portion of the season and played out of position.
Honestly, after seeing Spurs' strikers over the past few years, I'd still rather have Soldado being in the position to miss sitters than not make any movement at all. Can't continue in such bad form for the rest of his career, that'd just be freak. You don't lose that in 7/8 months. Nice to have a decent penalty taker at last though.
Really is too early to write players off, but only Eriksen has looked anything like his ability.

I think Eriksen was cheap because he was in his final year at Ajax, I know he almost went to Liverpool but I'm surprised no one bigger went for h
I try hard to like Paulinho and he is a grafter but I don't know what he offers that we weren't already offered though through Dembele?
We spent too much on the squad we should've gone all out for a top player, even a merecenary who would've joined for £250k a week and would've stayed for 2 seasons only but who would've been worth an extra 7-10 pts a season (obv easier said than done but still this wasn't even a consideration)
