Doesn't Hoddle have one of the best win records as an England manager as well? Just because he turned out to be a nutjob didn't make him a distinctly average manager haha. Was just unlucky.
The Gascoigne fiasco was short sighted, though.

England aren't a top class manager away from being one of the best, that's ridiculous.

Do you know what, I don't think he deserves to be sacked but I do think it's the perfect time for him to go. If he leaves and the next manager comes along and has the ability to make these talented youngsters a proper team we may well look back and say Roy Hodgson was the turning point for England. If he stays we may well end up thinking what could have been. I know that sounds weird but it's the first time a manager has had the balls to turn to the youth and leave out the names that people usually take. Other than Cole what other experienced players did he leave out? Sterling was the only youngster given a prominent role. Carrick and Defoe. Two I would have taken. We should use our younger players, the likes of Shaw, Barkley, Stones, Sterling for the Euro 2016 qualifiers. Let them play a campaign together and they might be able to click and play well as a team.

I have no doubt about that. well i do. mourinho can't go out and spend £100m+ as england manager so he'd probably be shite. it's just a ridiculous thing to say

Glenn Hoddle was a very good manager, believes in youth and likes to play football the right way. It's laughable to lump him in with Taylor and Mcclaren.

If Mourinho was England manager we'd be back to how we played against Italy in 2012 and I'd go back to hating them.

He went into the Italy game believing we should be playing Lampard-Gerrard as a middle 2 (funnily enough in 2011 he lambasted Capello for doing that in the 2010 WC) Plus he's a cunt. Never understand why people still tout him for jobs, never mind top ones.

I have no doubt about that. He's not an international manager in a million years. Never really shown any ability to dip into the academies at the teams he's been at, relies on spending or bringing in ready-made youth graduates from other teams. Unrelated but his style of play is precisely the reason why Capello (on paper our best manager, as Mourinho would be) grew to be crucified by media and public alike.

tbf if there's any time in their england careers gerrard and lampard should have been playing together, it's now. you can't use what he was complaining about 4 years ago now, why can't his opinion change?

I have no doubt about that. He's turned it down before. Had his chance. There isn't anyone really I can think of who would make it worthwhile to sack Hodgson. Bring through the youth players and make some changes in the English game whilst stopping the big clubs get so much fucking favouritism from the FA to the detriment of the game.

Glenn could've built something really good with England, he had/has genuine visions about structure and substance and I don't think any of our managers after could really have the same said for them. Would be a good idea to have him (or someone similar but less outspoken without resorting to becoming a yes man) involved in some capacity

Hodgson's commitment to bringing through the youth is easily the main factor behind him keeping his job. I like the man and am grateful for that but after 2016 he's got to be gone.
The problem with England, as with so many managerial jobs, is it tends to go reputation rather than how the people actually manage. Capello's a perfect example of this, big name, ooooh let's have him, then we quickly realise this isn't all that. Someone like Hoddle would probably be great for it but he won't have a chance.

Actually can't believe people still can't see him for what he is.
A complete waste of another two years. We'll be back here having the same tired discussion.
