There'd be a thread of Scotland's World Cup failings but they're never there to begin with. You sure showed him there mate he better sign up with bupa to get some first class proper private healthcare with his own room and a lovely treated lawn to deal with that burn

Why don't Wales, Scotland, England and Northern Ireland have just one United Kingdom football squad? It would improve their chances of actually putting together a quality side. So many things wrong with that. Mainly, who would the Scottish then have to laugh at when a World Cup comes around and they're not taking part?

Media, as always, fucks us.
When the draw was made most writers etc said we'll we're not getting out of the group so we may as well take kids and hope for the best. As the WC has got closer suddenly the majority of the rhetoric was aimed at getting players coaches and pundits etc to talk about our chances compared to other WCs when a year ago it was the aforementioned (kids going for the experience etc, preparing for the future)
We lose our first two games, sure we played well or had chances to score but didn't so it's disappointing at the time, but it wasn't unexpected. No sooner do we lose to Uruguay and there is talk of getting rid of Hodgson and abandoning the four year plan which is only half done. Criticising him for not taking Cole (a move that was being heralded as the dawn of a new age a month or so ago) and the like. Take media out of the equation and all those buzzword stats they real off (statistically world WC ever etc, etc, someone has to be blamed etcetc) and I think there are more positives than negatives to take from the tournament. It's why I've basically just ignored the majority of the sports sections re: England since Thursday.
Another example might be Gerrard.. it's been less than a week and yet newspapers etc are pressuring him into an answer on his future when he's just had the most unsuccessful international campaign of his life- and it's probably his last. Give the man a chance to breathe.. Agendas man, they always fucking ruin it.
Disclaimer: I'm not saying anyone is exempt from criticism, like the flat midfield tactics or the poor substitutions from Roy. But from personal experience that was probably our best world cup in terms of actually getting somewhere with our team whilst maybe not actually getting somewhere in the tournament.. if that makes sense. Kind of like, we play shite and get through in 2010- it's not going to last but who cares because we got through? Not for me. Sure, we might have a blip this time round but there's good groundwork for someone to take over in 2 years or 4. Yada, yada, yada.

So it's because you all hate each other? Got it. Not really. The Scottish hate the English, the Welsh are somewhat impartial and there's not enough time left in the day to explain the Northern Ireland situation. The English laugh at the Scot's hatred, treat the Welsh somewhat patronisingly and are just as perplexed as to how to treat Northern Ireland as they are us. On the whole though, when it comes to sport, a lot of it is just a bit of a giggle. There are some mentalcases who take it seriously but you'll probably get that in the US between certain states.

It'd be just the English team and Gareth Bale.
Ironically Bale would be the best player too.

There are certainly regional rivalries in the United States as well, but I just find it weird that there are divisions in your sporting teams. That would be like the US showing up with a New York team, a Florida team, a California team etc.

Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland are all separate countries instead of states.
