erm he'll be a folk hero for a lot longer than till he dies. The bloke has scored over 100 goals in 4 years, taking us from the 3rd division back into the Premiership. He proved a lot of people wrong by scoring 15 goals in his first season there, then proved even more people wrong when he got his chance for England and took it by scoring with his first touch in an England shirt. He is an absolute legend and is on par with Matt Le Tiss. My point exactly. Club legends = best legends.

Rooney for me as previously said, I think he will end as United & England' record goal scorer.

Got a laugh at some people giving Giroud and Remy a vote.
Rooney as a player will be talked about far more and have documentaries etc on him like Gazza did (not as many due to personal issues etc), but unless Rooney wins England the World Cup then he'll not be remembered for one specific moment in history like AGUERROOOOOOOOOO will. Best day of my life. Still got goosebumps when I think of that dad or watch the video of Martin Tyler/Merson's commentary.
It, Arsenal in 89 and Utd 99 most be three of the most dramatic/memorable moments in football surely? (except maybe some crazy shit in some south american league somewhere).

Childish Yeah I'm sure the whole coming back from three goals down to win a Champions League final thing should be overlooked.

I'm surprised that there have not been more votes for Suarez, I suppose the 'fondly' part has put people off.

I voted Aguero just for that goal. I'd have voted for Tevez/Dzeko/Balotelli if they had scored the same goal.
Never went so mental over a goal that wasn't a Boro one in my life.

Childish Yeah I'm sure the whole coming back from three goals down to win a Champions League final thing should be overlooked. I meant specific moments - Thomas' goal, 'Solskjaer has won it!' and 'Ballotelli....AGUERROOOOOOOOO' are individual moments of madness. Liverpool was more an incredible 45 minutes where after each goal you were egging them on in disbelief that they might actually do it. The others totally came from nowhere. You get me?

Dudek's save from Shevchenko in the shootout was pretty special, though. As was his miraculous save in extra time. I'll never understand how Shevchenko didn't score that.

went for aguero even though realistically due to the English thing Rooney will probably be more remembered. I can't remember another time I had such a buzz seeing someone debut that wasn't a spurs player, I remember being genuinely excited that someone with Aguero's quality was in the premier league even if it was for someone who I should really be considering a rival. If he keeps on scoring goals for another five years and city win another title or two then he's gonna be right up there

How is Rooney's nationality even remotely relevant if he goes on to be Manchester United's, his NT's and (less likely, but still) the PL's top scorer of all-time? As if that wouldn't be an unbelievable legacy if he wasn't English?

because we're in England. Robbie Keane is Ireland's top scorer but you hardly get the sentance RONALDO, MESSI, PELE, ROBBIE KEANE, THE GOAT'S.
It's natural for an English player to get more highly thought and spoken of in this day and age of the media rimming the fuck out of them if you're in england. Maybe if you're american or Dutch or Turkish or something it won't be the same but in England. Noone in italy is ever gonna think frank lampard is GOAT but some english people will.

No, obviously, but if Robbie Keane was going to be the top-scorer for a huge club like United, who had won the title numerous times while he was there, whilst also working his way to potentially becoming the top PL scorer of all time.. he would have a pretty amazing legacy, no? Regardless of nationality. I think it works both ways. Some people will overrate Rooney/Lampard because they are English and some people will underrate them for the same reason. Before United-Madrid games last season Marca were marking out Rooney as the absolute key man in the side and went on to say Madrid fans were very happy he'd missed the 2nd leg. In England he was seen as far inferior to RVP (which ftr, he never, ever, ever was) by then, in fact on this forum (well on the other site) people were saying Rooney is barely United's 3rd best striker.

That's like saying no one in England will ever think Pirlo is GOAT but some Italians will. Stupid thing to say. was an exaggeration but the point remains english people in england are often overrated. and fwiw @johnny I'm not saying Rooney isn't really good, obvious he's a top top player when he wants to be, but again the point remains an Englishman in England will often be overrated. They won't be seen on the same level abroad, which I suppose is why very very very very few English/British people ever get that top move to a club in europe. They jst don't think these people are as good as or own media do. The fact rooney is even looked at by foreign clubs sets him aside from the majority of english players though, so you're right in a sense about him. If we weren't talking about strikers though you could have this same talk about other people. Lampard as i've mentioned is seen as GOAT by some chelsea fans, why has noone ever gone on record with a bid for him even at his peak? During the whole 12 years+ (im not sure about specifics) of Gerrards career some liverpool and england fans have said hes absolutely stunning, noone bar Chelsea to my recollection have ever made it clear they want him. Terry and ferdinand in defence. Loads of people the media rim but noone else in the world seems to want.
