I dont think paul scholes is, was or ever will be GOAT anyway. I don't agree that hundreds of people can be GOAT and there's a fairly high amount of people in my opinion throughout the whole of history who are better than him.
But no I didn't consider that, nor will I. I think if you want someone you'll try and get him no matter what. If Real Madrid had offered 80 million and then given him 250 grand a week, Lampard will have moved. Everyone has their price, you can't pretend someone like Madrid would go 'ah but he does like it there, never mind.' If he feels that strongly he can then refuse to go, why would someone not even bid and try and talk to the guy though if he really is one of the best in the world? Not even make it clear they're interested? I don't remember if united ever made that ronaldo bid in the summer but there was no secret they were interested

I don't know why people throw the 'GOAT' tag around so much, 'Greatest of all-time' argument is only really between Messi, Maradona and Pele, Ronaldo if he won the World Cup on his own or something and possibly someone like Cryuff for how he revolutionised the game. No-one mentioned in this thread is anywhere near that level.
Gerrard revealed that Bayern Munich were after him and there were strong links with Real Madrid.
Giggs was very close to joining Inter Milan. Roy Keane pulled out of signing for Bayern Munich and Juventus just before negotiations. There were more than a few teams who would have been interested in Scholes in the continent. Top-class home nations players are wanted, just that most are not prepared to leave.
This isn't the best generation to reference because most of them just aren't that good and are going to settle for being paid twice as much at a mid-table English team at home rather than go to a random country to play in the Europa League.
