How come you've gone down the PT route? Just curious is all.

Though I've never had one, I've always thought they're a pretty good thing for people just starting out. Having someone push you at the start is great. If someone's gone their whole life without really going gym they're most likely just to take the easy option when there and not really push themselves. And just to learn what to do and not shy away and get intimidated by people using different machines etc when you've got someone there with you is invaluable imo.
And I think they're like 20 quid a session? Pretty pricey but yeah.

That's fair enough and you're doing it right with regards to only doing it for the short term so you get to know the ropes. A gym can be pretty daunting for someone who has never been in one, I was lucky that my Dad used to take me so I learnt everything pretty fast.
If you're going to be doing any weights at all I'd make sure to bookmark bodybuilding.com cos it's full of helpful shit about what exercises do what and how to use the correct form whilst doing them.

My gym does it for people just starting for like an extra tenner a month, I had one for a month or two a few years back, one of the hardest couple of months I've ever had.

Once i get back to uni i'm definitely going to start going to the gym. I'm pretty fit anyway, but looking to get really fit for football. Will most likely focus on cardio stuff to start off with and then maybe move to weights after a short while. Will have no idea what i'm doing, but my mate goes to the gym so will probably go along with him.

£260 a month?!? My balls... that's a year and a half of my gym membership. First back day in a long time on Monday there and I'm still fucking feeling it. Bad times.

Even worse since I had some product training in CrossFit gear yesterday for work which included a small session. Not what I needed...! Any opinions on CrossFit? I think the gear is actually really nice for my normal workouts, but the actual idea really seems a bit shite.
Totally not conducive to any other fitness/sports/workouts you want to do in life considering CrossFit you literally have to do very regularly to stay in any way fit/mobile enough for it. So you just become a CrossFit nerd for life.

Fitness training focussing on dynamism, motility and flexibility as well as strength through a wide range of motion in exercises and fluid high intensity movements for short bursts. Done in classes generally with a trainer there dictating your workout for the session. Sounds nice and all, but everyone I've come across who does it is really fucking smug about it because it's the 'elite' way to train.
I have mates who do it, and even if they won't be arseholes about it, it still makes them disregard all other ways of training as wrong and bad for your body in the long term.
