Think there's no point trying to compare past and present players. May as well compare sprinters in even an average one today could pump past legends so you can only go on who they are in and around.
Always saw Zidane as the GOAT because he was the best as I was growing up. His coaching career is a harder one. But I'll have to throw him in with pep in that yeah it was great but having prime Messi, Xavi, Inesta etc coming through your academy is gonna make it a bit simpler. Being at City now where he gets multiple 50 million transfers in every position reinforces that a bit. Not saying he's shite btw.
Player wise Torres was always one I didnt see the fuss. Seemed to have great spells then a bunch of "if only he could stay fit!!" Before the Chelsea flop bandwagon. Think it goes back to that aura factor mentioned earlier in that if he looked like Tevez he'd be looked at more evenly. Also Tevez yeah.

Overhead kick straight in the top corner to win the game against one of your title rivals who also happen to play in the same city, can’t help but feel if it wasn’t Rooney people wouldn’t care what part of his leg it hits.

If it hit his shin it’s more luck than skill.

No-one deliberately tries to kick a ball with their shin. If it flies in the corner it flies it the corner but you’ve fluked it to a greater degree than if you hit it with your foot.

Even if it flew off his big toe and broke the net Elmander's is still a more incredible goal.

Bolton’s 2011 midfield was overrated we should begin there

Also depends if you're rating the goal or the occasion? Should they not be separate? And it bothers me that he shins it because it makes it more of a fluke than skill.

This isn't fair. There's only one of us left. I can't take on everyone... unlike Stuart Holden whose ability to break lines and move with the ball was second to none.
Holden was as good as we said and would have been bought by a Champions League club at some point (assuming his form had continued), probably correct with us overrating Lee and Petrov.
Looking back I think we were fair with Muamba, he couldn't pass or shoot but he was a wonderful defensive midfielder otherwise. However he would have suffered the most if he was playing today's football.

You obviously never mastered the art of the shin roller A shin roller always created a paradoxical feeling of simultaneous frustration and satisfaction.
