Well if there was a goal to get eliminated from the CL with, it would be this one.

Fellaini was the worst player on the pitch. He just saunters around without an ounce of awareness of what he should be doing. Few good touches when the ball was at his chest but he has to offer far more than that. I thought even Cleverley would've been preferable in the first half wen he kept losing the ball in tight areas.

For his height he can't head a ball even a bit accurately.

Buttner was >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Welbeck, Carrick and Ferdinand were all quality too, shame their goal was such a shit piece of play from Fellaini, idk how many times he decides to just not do the very basic thing of tracking his runner.. if only Carrick was in that position ffs. For all Bayern's possession I don't think they really created even one clear cut chance other than that, United had a few, shame Welbeck's goal was disallowed but I guess Nani was sent off last year for that so fuck knows what European refs are gonna do there. Amazing how much better a defence can look with the right set-up in front of it as well.
Should be a good game next Wednesday, looking forward to it tbh.

Pissed me off when Buttner was subbed in order to place Jones in LB where he's rarely played and also to put Valencia (on a yellow) against Ribery.
The match puts a little more faith in my belief that Real will win the CL. A faster side like Real should have a great time attacking the Bayern defense on the counter.

Not trying to be hasty because they could easily go out and win 3-0 at the Allianz, but this Bayern team don't impress me as much as last year. Playing such a methodical possession game doesn't allow the best in players like Ribery, even Gotze. How many chances did they really create last night, or against Arsenal? They got one from the penalty, their goal was Kroos smashing one in, then a goal as Arsenal threw men forward. Their goal was very similar to the one against Arsenal at the Allianz where they finally got through and a runner into the box (Schweingstiger again) got on the end of a ball. Imo against a team like Madrid who might score 3 against them I can't see this Bayern side fashioning out enough quality chances. They play the Barcelona way without having the passers Barca do...Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Ribery, Mandzukic can't pick out the same pass that Xavi, Fabregas, Iniesta, Messi etc could. Only players capable of it are Kroos, probably Thiago, sometimes Robben, Gotze.

I hate it when people expect clubs to entertain them during knock out football. It's a two legged tie, with a home game to follow for Bayern. They have no need to chase the game. United had often 9/10 men behind the ball. That's difficult to break down against poor sides. They couldn't get in behind United because of how deep they were defending, but they did have plenty of success on the overlap, with Utd defending so narrow, but often the final ball was lacking - or United just simply flooded the central areas. One criticism I would have is Muller's inclusion for Mandzukic - he would have given them something different. But all in all it's hard to play scintillating football when the other teams purpose is solely to stop you from doing so.

Of course it is, but I just don't fancy Bayern to have the penetration if they go down a few goals to someone like Madrid. On the other hand I think Madrid could break down Bayern if they tried to hold out. Though I suppose the whole point of Bayern's game is to not let the opposition get the ball.

I don't think Madrid would ever do what United did last night though and stick 10 behind the ball regardless of the situation.

Well it does help when your front three cost £200m.
