Loving the variation in design this year. Much prefer the RB, Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren style of nose. Fat front.
Wtf is up with the Force India and Toro Rosso though. Absolutely vile. Caterham's looks disabled.

I'd read more but annoyingly autosport.com charges you for certain articls (so I could do with finding another source for technical updates, anyone got any suggestions?), but as it stands Gary Anderson is championing the Red Bull as the car to beat, even though it's done no decent running yet. Reckons it's got a lot of hidden intricacies on top of an already stable design build. Whether it's head and shoulders above without the blown diffuser is yet to be seen but Ferrari and Mclaren are also viewed well.

Also, maybe this has something to do with why Lewis' wing came off under heavy load I've known holiday romances ger more attatched than that. Holy christ. I wonder if I had this explained to me in person by the designer would I understand any of it.

I was moreso highlighting the ridiculously small contact area holding the wing onto the nose in the centre-right of the picture but yeah, it looks like it belongs in a Japanese robot anime show.

It's because the teams refused to lower the chassis any further than they already are. If they'd have done so there'd be no need to these wings, some teams like Merc and Ferrari have managed to not need to emulate a Narwol/Condom/Dildo. Red Bull has a lot of intricate parts on it already, s-duck on the nose and air gaps on the very front. Also flares out a lot more than first meets the eye. Rear floor has a lot of slots too. I get that but I don't get what changes if Force India went to the FIA and said "Look, these look fucking awful" took their ridiculous penis off the front and just ran without it. The car still looks fine, no safety dangers or anything and we have better cars to look at.

JM I really don't see what's even a bit nice about that Ferrari. Dreadful looking car. Can't have anything to do with your favourite drivers racing for Ferrari can it?

Because this isn't what the FIA wanted, it's just the way the teams have tried to get round the restrictions. What they want is wings like Ferrari and Mercedes have, so expect to see changes at the end of this season, possibly sooner if one wing style starts to show itself as being superior.

People on Twitter are saying they've been forced to change the wings because of the Grosjean accident at Spa. But for me, if that Merc or Ferrari goes into the back of another car they'll actually pick it up and then Ham/Alonso etc will have the rear end of a car staring them in the face. Newey talked about the 'scoop effect' and it being just as dangerous.
Wish they'd just fuck the rules and make it so the cars look nice. F1 is a relatively safe sport in recent years whatever the cars have looked like.

Thing is they've obviously judged it's far less likely due to the closing speed being reduced to actually get underneath another cars rear floor and pick it up, I don't actually think if there was a rear-ender that they would scoop the car in front up, rather the front end would just crumple.

Do they test for that sort of thing? *now youtubing to find F1 car crashing into wall at 30mph with crash test dummy in*
Not quite, but bloody hell.

One thing I do like are the engines. Sound so angry.

Interesting day so far. The teams running Renault engines (Caterham, Toro Rossos and most importantly, Red Bull) are having serious issues getting their engines running consistently. The teams running Mercedes engines are running somewhat better, and the teams running the (supposed less powerful) Ferrari engine seem to be having the most success. McLaren making the early running both in lap times and number of laps, there's one or two novel tricks in the bodywork that Gary Anderson has highlighted that I would share more of if I wasn't too tight to sign up to autosport. Oh wait, it's not behind the paywall. Basically. More grip in slow corners and more speed on the straights. Fancy this will be focused on about as much as Red Bull's S slot and Caterhams nose. As I'm typing, more Red Bull issues.

Is this being streamed anywhere on the BBC website?
Also, someone mentioned to me yesterday that Christian Horner thinks a lot of cars won't finish races due to the reduced fuel load from 170ltr to 100ltr.

There's been bits and pieces leaking out on YouTube but officially they're not allowed to broadcast any cars running. Red Bull are seriously worried, they've been whining a lot. Horner's whining about reliability, whining about budget caps too (obviously, massively outspent other teams in recent years), Newey has been whining about the noses yet when given the opportunity to voice their opinions in the relevant meetings they chose not to, Newey didn't even attend. Just soundbites to the media.

Haha, Ricciardo takes the Red Bull and two corners later it's conked out.
