Apparently, the Merc engines haven't even been working at full whack yet and they'll only turn them up to full tomorrow morning. In which case they could hold a substantial advantage over the Ferrari's which have been similarily matched so far.
The Red Bull has been a nightmare, apparently they took all the advice Renault gave about eletric systems within the engine (the turbo wastegate etc) and threw them out the window so have had to rebuild their cooling system.
Lotus must be bricking it though, they should still have all these issues to come. If they didn't look over Di Resta for Maldonado I'd almost feel for them.

Is Button setting the best time two days running a sign of McLaren having a car that works and will only get better or that it works but that's all your gonna get. Wish you could watch a proper highlights package of each day to get a better idea.

Wish you could watch a proper highlights package of each day to get a better idea. Iirc they were top of the timesheets last season too. Wouldn't read anything into the lap times, but I would read into the lap numbers. Renault engines are suffering badly, Red Bull have serious issues but as such we don't really know how good their aero package is. I'd say McLaren and Mercedes are the clear front runners at the moment with Ferrari just behind.

Genuinely don't think Hamilton will get a better chance to get his second title.

Magnussen has looked good apparently.
Reading up on the BBC's reports, Horner and Newey not only left early today but they've left Jerez entirely. Ricciardo said Newey has 'gone back to the drawing board', suggesting though there are serious issues with these Renaults engines (Toro Rosso missed loads of running and Caterham haven't managed a timed lap) Red Bull have also hampered their progress and have had to go back to the factory to fix it.
One worry is the heat the turbo engines generate, every car that's stopped has immediately started smoking and in race conditions it'll be both a lot hotter than running presently (especially in certain races) and also harder to respond in similar time due to it being a live track. Expecting quite a lot of fires and overheating issues.

Red Bull have called it a day and are finished with this test. Expect the Bahrain test to feature a raft of new mechanics and a hugely redesigned Red Bull. Fancy Newey will be emulating that McLaren rear as soon as possible. Though a few technical people I've seen have said as soon as Red Bull get over these engine issues their car will be on the pace easily, very confident in it's aero package.

Came across this on Youtube tonight, incredible video, well worth a watch if you have 30 mins to spare. The last 5-10 mins just reminded how incredible the sport is and why I miss it so much during the winter.

Update: Red Bull are still fucked Gary Anderson reckons they'll struggle to get out of Q1 in Aus, did a piece on Autosport behind the pay wall suggesting only Caterham & Marussia are slower, Red Bull & Toro Rosso really close. Reckons it's between the Mercedes teams in the early rounds. Great for Force India & Williams. Merc fastest by a mile but still having issues, first few rounds could really go to anyone, even the Merc could conk out at any moment. Williams seem to be getting the longest runs in.

I'd love it if Massa won in Australia Although it will be a shame that Vettel won't break Alberto Ascari's run of consecutive race wins though.

Williams unvieled Martini as their principle sponsor today. The resulting livery looks absolutely brilliant. Have to do a presentation on something in re: to engineering at work soon, so I started looking up this seasons rule changes. Hadn't looked properly before now. Engines are a alot smaller, but the Turbocharger and the KERS system (now called ERS and now built into the engine unit) means the cars only lose approximately 10bhp or so. ERS will give the cars up to 33 seconds of extra bhp too, but not on command, it'll all be electronically. Means if your ERS does become faulty, you'll lose a lot more time than you did when KERS wouldn't work last year. Gone with the KERS 'boost' button though. Can't wait for Melbourne now. Especially with the grid being all sorts atm. Mercedes, Williams and McLaren all strong. Hope Red Bull's woes continue to the benefit of the championship. Hamilton's the favourite atm according to the bookies. Surprised me. Vettel's out to 3/1 I think.

One hour highlights show after the football if I cant get up ridiculously early to watch it live. The full replay start at 2pm which clashes with football, not the most wisest move there SKY.
