Jack Straw has been suspended by the Labour party, not surprised at all.

Guess it would help to explain the decline of the Telegraph though

Did you see their retaliation piece? Ran a front page header on Saturday leading with the story that some journalists from The Times I think it was had topped themselves due to pressure at work.

lol fuckin hell what a rag
Even just clicked on their website there and the first five stories you see, one is relating to the former foreign secretary (I think about the expenses scandal?) and the other four headlines:
Divorced wife told to get a job and stop living off her ex Clarkson is a buffoon, says Mayor of Liverpool Stop pitying 'jihadi brides' - they're not victims Travolta's kiss sums up sexism in Hollywood
You scroll down and Johnson has a piece on Mugabe and Labour which might be interesting but before you get to that you're exposed to:
Meet the Ukippers: nine slightly terrifying things we learned last night Old school ties: Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne and Prince William pictured together at Eton The man who 'cured' his cancer with everyday pills Father and son battle for four cars worth £2.2m Villagers' outrage over plans to turn country mansion into £3.2m 'Butlins-style' camp for gypsy families

Like I never liked the Telegraph because it was conservative and that's not my politics but it used to be a proud broadsheet. It literally is just a dressed up Daily Mail now.

www.thejournal.ie/readme/greece-austerity-challenge-ireland-1955406-Feb2015/The extension was kind of inevitable with the stand-off last week but I hope Greece stick to their guns. Different situation to Ireland in terms of what caused their issues (mainly tax avoidance as far as I can tell eh Solitario... and aren't you in Switzerland? Dodgy bastard), but all the noises from Syriza are about needing room to fix issues and that the current situation will never be sustainable. Which is true. A good line in that article is the fact that the Greek people have mandated Syriza to stop austerity essentially, and the Troika/Germany/ECB are completely dismissing the will of a nation.

It's very hard to get solid journalism in this day and age because we are saturated with it in so many forms which no-one really wants to pay for either.
I was doing some writing for a sports site that was taking off a few years ago, when it started the editor was talking about integrity, good writing etc. Then he sent an email about 2 months later - 'As of April, the Website takes a new direction. Although people are interested in the opinion pieces, and some may place for free, this does not create an income for the website'. So then he wanted to do 'investigative journalism' on bullshitty topics like steroid use in golf that would obviously catch attention but have no substance (very, very slim chance of finding out anything substantial) but catch attention. The website then collapsed about a month later.
Basically just wanted crappy articles with eye-catching headlines to catch people, create hits, thus create income for the website.
I quite like the Guardian but even it has it's fair share of clickbait. That's the problem when everyone wants the media for free. Something has to give.

Reason why young people are struggling to get engaged in politics? This on the same day Cameron promises to protect free tv licenses, bus passes and winter fuel allowance for all pensioners.

I don't know where the truth is tbh, think it's a bit of both and I'm personally not that concerned because I never had to pay taxes in Greece as I never worked there axaxaxax

Part of the thing with the Lib Dems getting in and having to try and do some of the stuff they said is that all the pie in the sky stuff the parties that have no hope of getting in is being scrutinised the same way it is for the top parties. The Greens can't get away with not knowing how they would run a government if they had a majority even though getting double figures of seats is virtually impossible for them. Might make Miliband look better by association though.

Aye I think Cameron's refusal to take part in the TV debates unless the Greens were invited (on the presumption that if he's going to lose face and votes to UKIP on the right, Milliband should lose face and votes to the left from the Greens) is going to come back to haunt him, especially if she turns in this similar level of performance in the tv debate. Think the most intruiging debate will be the second one. First will be a farce, second will show us where Nick Clegg's loyalties lie because he'll have to set his stall out and appease both of them if he's gonna try and form a co-alition in the next parliament.

That's fair enough, but that's not the problem for me, it's about her ability to handle the media etc. She absolutely crumbled whereas a competent leader would've just admitted they don't have the figures and kept their head rather than the shambles that she produced, can't believe she ended up saying it was as she had a cold haha.
edit: Yeah I said it after the sunday politics interview but Cameron's probably regretting the decision to force them into the debates

Am I the only person who feels zero sympathy for these girls who've gone to Syria? For their families yes, but for them not even a little.
