Boxing Football NFL
I'll watch the tennis when Wimbledon is on but apart from that have little to no interest in any other sports really. I'll have snooker on in the background whilst I'm doing other things, same with darts, but couldn't actually sit there with the sole purpose of watching it.

Is that as good as it gets then notpropaganda? It just wasn't entertainment. I missed the england try, so the only enjoyment I got out of that game was the Welsh try, which was impressive. Other than that though it was 15 men in a row. 15 other men run into them. They fall down. And for some reason they get a pen and kick it through the posts.

Nah I mean it wasn't scintillating rugby and England are notorious for clamming up and playing very conservative rugby when the pressure is on. If you have time tune in to England v Australia though, the Aussies are probably one of the most exciting teams in world rugby tbh. I think it's a very northern hemisphere thing to start playing more conservative when the pressure is on, whereas the Aussies and NZ trust their skills to put it wide to win the game.
I think it's been called one of hte best RWC games of all time because of the occasion, the drama and the fact players were physically killing eachother. Re the penalties, that just comes with watching more games and understanding the infringements that are happening. Like I mentioned though, it is a very technical game and there are rules surrounding the scrum/lineout/breakdown that can be hard to grasp initially.

I rarely watch Rugby but I've always got the impression that England are basically the same across all sports. We are afraid to lose and prepare not to lose rather than to go out and win.
See it in the footy all the time and I get that impression with the Rugby too. Same in Cricket until recently.

England have always been quite a dull rugby team tbh, focusing on the pack (a good strong ruck is exciting but the main enjoyment I get out of rugby is interplay between the backs). The 2003 World Cup, they basically won it with that and having the best kicker in the world in Jonny Wilkinson.

Back in the day when I played Rugby I used to watch the Southern Hemisphere club Rugby Super 10's or something? To try and learn and become better.
Some of the Rugby they played was very exciting, all so good with the ball, moving it quickly through the hands and being very creative with it.
Then you watch England and it's into the forwards, pick it up and drive, repeat over and over.

I'll watch the first half of Eng-Aus. See what it's like.
I'm not watching the second half though cos after watching Graham Norton last night I can't go another day without watching Heat. It's been too long.

Yeah and the whole pick and drive, forwards dominating kind of rugby can be enjoyable at times but everyone wants to see offloads and exciting back play. Some of the plays off set pieces this World Cup have been great, and the Scottish intercept try today was great too.
The Wales game is all the more baffling from an English perspective because Lancaster was building a very excting backline, and then he just reverted to type when the pressure was on. The English team have probably been the most exciting team to watch in the past 2 years.

Also this is a good article from Gordon D'Arcy on the difference in philosophies between north and southern hemisphere (although it doesn't hold too much weight when you have teams like Wales and France more than willing to run it/offload).

I don't agree about England being a dull team at all. They've always utilized their wingers well Robinson, Cueto, Cohen and now even Johnny May.

Typical England that though.
Look at some of the stuff they play at times in the Football in qualifiers and then we get to a tournament, shit our pants and stick 3 defensive midfielders in and have about 30% possession.

Jason Robinson was exciting but there's been too few English players like him over the years. Compare that to say Welsh rugby with Shane Williams, George North, Leigh Halfpenny. Players you'd pay to see. England seem to have fewer than Ireland, France and Wales. Suppose saying whether something is dull or not is completely subjective but I've never gained much enjoyment from watching an English rugby game.

England do have those players though, they just don't get picked. There's a lot of decent wingers that didn't make the team iirc.

I went nuts when Wilkinson scored that drop kick in 2003, actually remember it quite clearly.
