At his peak, Keane was easily a box-to-box midfielder comparable to Vieira. Their goal returns are pretty similar as well, and some are making it sound like Keane never ventured past the halfway line.
@mikecfc Vieira was hardly a saint either though. Keane's leadership surely can't be in question here, numerous reports of him being an amazing leader. He doesn't surpass 2 racists on the 'cunt-o-meter' either.

Intentionally going out to end someone's career is a lot worse than racism which, as deplorable as it is, isn't physically hurting anyone or impacting on their career.

Aye I'd rather someone called me a spic than tried to break my legs if I'm honest.

Fair enough, but I hardly think the Haaland incident was quite Keane trying to end his career, he just wanted to hurt him, and that's all he did. Players kicking other players to hurt them is nothing new, you could tar most players' reputations if that's the case, Vieira included no doubt.

Well it's obviously going to sound more deplorable if you start making things up. Firstly he's never said he intentionally went out Haaland's career, just that he wanted to hurt him in 'revenge'? Secondly he didn't end his career, the injury that did that did that was actually on Haaland's other leg.

But hasn't Keane said that he was trying to end his career? Although he didn't, Haaland barely played again and that injury basically ruined him. There's kicking out at a player and then there's what Keane did. He took it to a whole new level. Wrong on both points. He didn't, and it didn't. Was his other knee that finished him. Haaland even finished the game where Keane did that to him.

Vieira JUST edges it for me. People think that the two are very far apart in terms of the way they play football but Keane and Vieira were more close than you would think. They share lots of characteristics and skills but in terms of an all-rounded player, I'd say Vieira.

Well forgetting the Haaland incident for a minute. How about his stamp on Southgate or throwing a punch at Shearer? The list goes on. Could do the same for Vieira and several other players I'm sure. Not claiming Keane was a saint, but I don't think you get his intensity and determination to win without it spilling over like this occasionally, price you have to pay.

Why couldn't Keane have the intensity & determination of England's Finest John Terry?
