Kyle Naughton is our worst player, but the hate he gets is unfair - he's a right back having to fill in at left back against opposition far better than he is.
Then again we're very fickle so everyone gets vitriol or love bestowed upon them depending on the last result

Chelsea's worst player is Mikel or Ba. You could make a case for Ba but Mikel definitely isn't. Far worse at the club than Ba. Not his fault Eto'o and Torres are favoured over him, he showed at Newcastle only a couple of years ago that he can score goals if he's given a regular start up front. Scores a few for Chelsea despite only cameo appearances off the bench.

Ashley Young would need to get shoved into that machine from Captain America and come out as the new Ronaldo to win me over at this point. Not just on the pitch, even in interviews with him he grates on me. I suppose Nani is much the same.
I've long thought Mikel would be the one for Chelsea fans, but I could understand it being any of their strikers.

Johnny Ertl bares the brunt of most of our fans' abuse, but tbh although he works hard he deserves it after some of his awful performances this season. Joe Devera is probably just behind him as he came with a bit of a reputation but the last two games he's looked much much better.
On the other end of the scale Ashley Harris gets bare praise cause he's a 'local lad' but I think he's wank.

Mikel's not our worst player, but him and Torres have definitely been our scapegoats for the last few years. In fact, if we're using players that actually play regularly for us (Hilario? wut?), I'd say Torres is our worst.

There are a fair few of them at the minute. People don't like Young because he had a bad start to the season and isn't good enough to escape diving criticism but he would still be a great footballer for a mid table team and is ok back up. Valencia gets picked on a lot on United boards recently but I think he still does some good things if he has a strong attacking full back beside him he is useful and offers a lot of width.
Biggest scapegoat is probably Cleverley this season from United and other fans. He pisses off other fans cos he gets in England squads, he pisses off United fans because he emphasises the failures in the transfer market in midfield.
Worst player in the first team squad is Buttner who is crap at defending.

Naughton isn't even a scapegoat he's just completely toxic wherever he's played.

Used to be Barry. Then it was Hart but now it's just whatever centreback plays alongside Kompany.

Peter Whittingham.
Not the worst player in the team but has been such a liability at late. Midfield Berbatov without the occasional bit of magic.

Not sure we have one at the moment. Not a stand out one anyway, we tend to have small groups who're overly harsh on players.
There's a few who still think Per is rubbish because he's slow, think Koscielny is useless, think Giroud is cack, but on the whole there's no one scapegoat (yet) for most of them.

Our current scapegoat, at least on the Owl boards, is Atdhe Nuhiu. He probably should never have been signed in the first place and doesn't fit our style of play at all but any time that he sees the pitch there is a twenty page thread about him with dozens of people bashing him and a small handful defending him.
Takes a lot of stick for a striker who doesn't want to be a target man but is played there anyway. Just because we wanted Matt Smith and didn't get him doesn't mean that we should have signed some other 2 m striker.
On the other end of the spectrum is Jeremy Helan. People absolutely adore him but I don't see what he offers other than that he can run quite fast...his defensive positioning is dire and if you deploy him in attack he has no end product. He just shuttles up and down the left quickly and with a lot of effort.

I used to feel like this about Djimi Traore. I didn't rate Henderson last year but I wouldn't say he was at fault for our losses. I'd probably point the finger at Skrtel, Agger, Sakho and Mignolet but I don't think any of them are outright to blame or too shit.

Forgot to mention Adam Johnson. More of a worst player than a scapegoat. Watching that bloke play football knowing we paid £10 mil for him really does bring you close to tears.
