Surely they could get round any heat/time issues in one go by not playing at 3pm east coast-Australian time? Play at 5/7/9pm, at worst that's 7/9/11am in the UK, which isn't that bad. Having said that, I'm pretty sure July/August averages mid-teens for temperature anyway and fuck it, 5am kick off, can watch that before work.

Japan is too recent, though fuck me I feel old when I realise how long ago it was.
USA would struggle to fill the stadiums, give the game some time to grow there first.
The one guarantee you'd get from us is that the games would always be full. You'd probably have the same with the Aussies though that's partly because the stadiums are smaller.

30 or so degrees isn't too hot to play football. We'll see soon enough.

The 1994 World Cup is by a distance the highest attended World Cup ever and the game is far bigger in the U.S. now than 20 years ago, in part because of what hosting the World Cup did for the growth of U.S. soccer. I don't think the game is any bigger in Australia than it is in America. They wouldn't have any problem, don't doubt Americans and their enthusiasm for sporting events, even ones they don't care about.

I think a large part of that was the novelty though, what with it being the first time, soccer almost being an alien thing to them. It'd be interesting to see if they could still generate that level of interest now the MLS is established but still miles behind the big four American sports.
It may not be bigger comparitively, but I don't think the competition for attention is as difficult in Australia.

I meant that more tongue-in-cheek than as a serious contention
Brazil's climate will be worse than Australia's though, the games in Manaus are going to be murder for the players

What does the A-league have to do with the World Cup though? No one gives a shit about the Brazilian Serie A, South Africa's top league etc. Australia is the best next place to go in Asia. They have the means to host it so why not. Also the world doesn't centre around us. Why are we so worthy that the games have to fit our times? It represents a large part of the work Australia have done to increase the profile of football in their country, which FIFA supposedly value, that's why I mentioned it. No I agree I was asking Stu.

A World Cup in Australia could have the same effect it did in USA. Also, it is the last continent to host one. I don't care what time games are on, always going to be problems when it is in Asia at least. Japan is what, 8 hrs difference?
Also, Djed. World Cup in USA would be very well attended. Still a lot of work to do there mind.

I don't know why any of you are trying to have a sensible discussion with Stu.
If its not in Western Europe at 3PM he's not interested.

No matter who is chosen to host any World Cup its gonna make people unhappy, me personally I couldn't give two shites if a World Cup is played in France or the Faroe Islands
Sametime the people who moan about 'awh England are never gonna get the World Cup' are probably the cunts who'll be wearing Italy shirts next week. I don't want us to get a World Cup until this 'Englishman hates England' culture dies its fucking horrible ugly yet beautiful death. We have too many fucking wankers in this country to deserve little more than an aids infestation never mind a sports tournament. Were it to ever happen it'd be a Britain thing anyway and considering that'd mean putting Scotland automatically into the WC proper, I wouldn't allow that so fifa probably wouldn't.
You can throw any trendy country, your favourite country into rhe hat and no matter who they are you're still gonna get opposition, football fans are impossible to keep happy even as a minority, let alone the majority, the more football fans involved in ANYTHING generally means a shaper upturn in the uneducated xenophobic thick cunt quota.
I'm out.

How are the people saying England won't get the World Cup going to be wearing Italy tops?
