Surely if Platini wants the job though he's not doing himself any favours by showing how disposable the head can be? 4 terms suggests it's anything but disposable.

Japan is too recent, though fuck me I feel old when I realise how long ago it was. USA would struggle to fill the stadiums, give the game some time to grow there first. The one guarantee you'd get from us is that the games would always be full. You'd probably have the same with the Aussies though that's partly because the stadiums are smaller. As an American I feel I'm more qualified to answer this than most here. The US would have no problem filling the stadiums and in fact I believe if the US were given the 2022 World Cup. In fact I believe they would smash the 1994 attendance record. The final game would likely be in Dallas' new stadium and draw around 110,000 fans. In relevant news, Man U is playing Real Madrid in a friendly at Michigan Stadium around 90 minutes from my house and sold out the ticket allotment in less than 30 minutes. The stadium is expected to have 115,000 fans in attendance. That is for a meaningless friendly in a relatively small city and it will be packed. The US might lack fans in proportion to other countries, but in sheer numbers the US has more than enough international football fans to fill stadiums across the country even without accounting for tourists travelling for the games. On top of that we have state of the art stadiums all over the country and games played in the afternoon here would be in prime time for European fans. The United States should be hosting the World Cup every 20 years or so from here on out. The fact that we were passed over for countries like Russia and Qatar is a complete joke.

No country should host the World Cup every 20 years remember Fifa's mandate about it being the 'global game'

I'd rather it was in America every 20 years than some backwards country like Qatar.

America probably has 10 times more backward people though.

Probably, most countries have their minority of backwards people, we're probably one of the worst for it in terms of %.

No country should host the World Cup every 20 years remember Fifa's mandate about it being the 'global game' No other country in North America can realistically host a World Cup. Asia. Africa and South America don't exactly have a ton of options going for them. So unless we are going to keep hosting it in Europe then it would make sense for the US to be hosting one every so often.

Behave South Africa were hardly seen as capable were they aswell, like I said a few pages back its a topic that bores the fuck out of me and no matter who gets picked to host any World Cup any year there'll always be strong opposition to it, the cycle has gone on for years and will carry on so because there never has or never will be a 'perfect' host nation because there is no nation even close to that label
This thread could go on for 20 years and in time we'd essentially look back at it as a bloody circle

It won't 'keep being hosted in Europe' either, since I was born 23 yrs ago there have been 2/6 in Europe which regardless has been the core of the sport since its inception and has many countries who are regarded as the biggest in the world sportwise, excellent facilities and stadiums and no tedious arguments about air conditioning and winter breaks

Oh? Last I checked Mexico has realistically hosted one before. Let's reel it in a bit.

Yeah that was before cities had become killing fields and before Mexico was embroiled in what is the closest thing to a civil war there is.

If the game can grow in Canada, which is it doing and I wouldn't be surprised if it reaches Ice Hockey levels due to the smaller costs involved, then you might see it being held there. They're looking at bidding for one in the late 20's I think. Can see 5/6 stadiums. Others are the problem. BC Place, Olympic Stadium, Commonwealth Stadium, BMO Field, McMahon Stadium and Saputo off the top of my head. Would need some work on those but not much.

No one gives a fuck about Canada though so the WC could never go there.

The problem is that FIFA is such a blatantly corrupt organization. Russia struggled massively with the Olympics, so sure let's give them a World Cup. Qatar is a nation of barely 2 million people with no infrastructure for such an event. On top of that women from other nations travelling for the World Cup could be thrown in jail unless they meet the nation's dress code. The fact is no matter how much people want to whine and cry about it there are some nations more well equipped to handle the hosting duties of a World Cup. The United States is one of the best candidates. The major European nations are also well suited for this, but hosting the World Cup in different continents for diversity's sake without any infrastructure to handle such an event is ridiculous and clearly driven by bribery to FIFA officials. The way I see it there are only so many suitable locations to host a World Cup with the size the event has become. Correct me if I'm wrong, but my list would go as such (pending how things go in Brazil this year): Any major Western or Central European nation United Kingdom United States South Korea/Japan Australia South Africa Realistically do you see any other nations with the infrastructure capable of hosting such an event without putting forth a significant investment that many nations couldn't afford to do. If you think Mexico's a realistic option these days then you are just asking for trouble the country has significant internal strife and violence right now. As for Canada, they have even less interest in the sport than the United States and only have a handful of stadiums even capable of fielding the World Cup. If they put a significant amount of resources into modernizing their current stadiums and building new ones than possibly some time they could be an option, but that's a lot to ask for a nation of roughly 30 million that doesn't have a significant amount of football fans.
